LESSON PLAN

Class: XI S
Unit: Future Bodies unit 7
Type of lesson: lesson of communication of knowledge and of developing skills
Topic/ vocabulary: adjectives to describe people
Skills: writing, reading, speaking, listening
Derived specific competences:
By the end of the lesson the students will be able:
 revise the facial features
 revise the verb to have got
 practise vocabulary describing people ;
 use the vocabulary to describe people;

Teaching methods: elicitation through questions, explanation, heuristic conversation,


explication, didactic game.

Materials and means: board, computer, projector, photos of people, coloured


pencils, coloured chalk, worksheet with a text describing people.

Description of the class:


This class consists of 8 special educational needs pupils. They can be characterised as
it follows: they all present developmental disabilities, which are moderate and mild,
learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, lack of self-esteem.

Anticipated problems:
Due to the fact that most of these students suffer from emotional disorders, it may
be possible that they feel overwhelmed by the situation.In this case I will constantly
offer support and encouragemnt, and if necessary change the plans, and skip to
another activity,which will be suitable at that time.
Students will probably have problems to differentiate between "to be" and "to
have"verb forms.
Students might use the noun in front the adjective like in their native language (like
in “She has a mouth big.”). The correct pattern for sentences will be shown.

PROCEDURE:
Activity 1- to create a relaxed atmosphere
Purpose: tune students in
Time: 2 min

Procedure: Teacher greets the students and checks the frequency.

Activity 3- create interest


Purpose: to create interest in the topic
Technique: elicitation through questions
Time: 5 min.
Interactive pattern: T-S
Procedure: At the top of the board Teacher draws 2 circles (these will be the heads).
Elicit "circles/heads". On each head Teacher draws a nose, ears and a mouth. Elicit
each. Then teacher asks "What’s missing?". Elicit "eyes". "What colour are they?"
Then teacher draws the eyes with different colours for each set of eyes. Elicit "hair"
and again pupils are asked "What colour is it?". On one head teacher draws long hair
in one colour (for the girl) and on the other she draws short hair (for the boy) in a
different colour. Teacher continues until elicit all the facial features.
Activity 4 – presentation of the title and the objectives of the lesson
Purpose: to learn the content of the lesson
Technique: explication
Time: 2 min
Procedure: Teacher presents the title of the lesson: Body and Health and the
objectives of the lessons.

Activity 5 –
Purpose: to revise the parts of the face
Technique: PPP with the parts of the face
Time: 2 min
Procedure: Teacher presents a PPP of the facial features. A student is invited to read
them.

Activity 6 – controlled vocabulary practice


Purpose: to revise the facial features
Technique: game
Time: 3 min
Procedure: Teacher says: Touch your nose! and students do. A student is invited to
lead the game.

Activity 7 –
Purpose: to revise the Verb To Have Got
Technique: PPP of the Verb To Have Got
Time: 2 min
Procedure: Teacher presents a PPP of the Verb To Have Got. A student is invited to
read it aloud.

Activity 8- Elicitation of function and structure


Purpose: to introduce the adjectives describing facial features
Technique: elicitation through conversation
Time: 10 min.
Interactive pattern: T-S
Materials: the drawings from the board
Procedure: Teacher tells students to compare the two drawings. Elicit "long / short
hair", blue/green/brown eyes, blonde/ brown /black hair.
Teacher writes on the whiteboard five headings (hair, eyes, nose, mouth, lips), under
each heading she writes the new adjectives: short, long, green, blue, straight etc.

3) Practice stage
Activity 9- Reading practice
Purpose: to provide students with practice in reading about people' s apperance
Technique:
Time: 10 min
Interactive pattern: S-T
Materials: worksheet with pictures of people and the description of people
Procedure: Students, in turns, have to read a text, look at the pictures and to fill in
the missing words.

Activity 10 - Speaking activity


Purpose: to use the new vocabulary
Technique: gamme
Time: 5 min
Interactive pattern: S-S
Procedure: A student has to describe one of his/her collegues without saying his/her
name and the rest of the class has to guess the person that is described.

Activity 11 - Listening activity


Purpose: to listen to the description
Technique: picture dictation
Time: 5 min
Interactive pattern: T-S
Materials: picture dictation
Procedure: I give the class a short picture dictation. As I read the description, the
students draw the picture of the character. When they are finished, they can compare
each others’ drawings. Finally I show them the real photo.
Picture Dictation: This is my friend Pauly. He has short red hair. He has big blue
eyes. He has a big nose. He has small ears. He is happy.
Activity 12- evaluate pupils' answers
Purpose: to make appreciations about the pupils' answers
Technique: conversation
Time: 2 min
Interactive pattern: T-S
Procedure: Teacher marks the pupils

Activity 13- Home assesment


Purpose: Students must describe two members of their family
Time: 2 min
