Magnification ! Resolution !

How many times The ability to distinguish

larger an image between two separate points
appears in (the smallest distance
comparison to the between two points at which
real image! they can be seen as separate)

Resolution of the light microscope !

• Resolution of the light microscope is limited by

wavelengths of light !
• The maximum is 200 um !

Resolution of the electron microscope !

The electron microscope has a much higher
resolution due to its resolution power being
much higher!

We use this triangle when

3d. The eyepiece graticle has to be calibrated so we

can measure accurately at varying magnifications
+ this is necessary to calculate real object
size seen!
3. Contrast = the varying shades of two objects.
Resolution = The ability to distinguish between two
points.

5. Diffraction can cause rays of light to spread out in

many other directions than when it may have
entered a medium. Due to this random spread of rays,
some may cross over each other which can affect
how we see images - blurriness. WVV
+ individual
objects not separate.
6. Graticule scales are different for each lens that you
use and we also have a stage micrometer which has
units on it as well.

units.
