NARRATIVE REPORT ON
INTRAMURALS 2022-2023

Prepared by:

Rachelle D. Ramoso
School Sports Coordinator

02 February 2023
To culminate the second quarter of the academic year, Pamalihi Elementary School held its first
Intramurals after the pandemic at the school grounds led by the school principal and fellow faculty
members. Since the start of full face-to-face classes, sports events are slowly being reimagined and
practiced. Hence, inter-school sports competitions are slowly being revived through sports meets. In
hopes to establish the culture of camaraderie through structured sports and friendly competitions, the
program started with a delegation march as led by the school principal. Each grade level marched and
performed a mini parade with their respective banners. From the school flag raising area, the respective
class advisers together with their learners marched through the school grounds with enthusiastic chants
cheering their inner competitive spirit. The delegation marches lasted for half an hour from the
kindergarten to the 6th grade. The humble yet visually-appealing banner prepared the Grade 3-Love won
the “Best Banner Award” given by the school principal. The “Most Disciplined Team” was awarded to
the kindergarten level as well.
As the learners and advisers flocked in their respective areas, the opening rites began with the
Makabayan tribute by the singing of the National Anthem followed by the invocation and opening
remarks by the school head. As it was prepared and approved, formal Olympic rites such as banner
raising contest, lighting of the Olympic torch, and singing the Olympic hymn were not observed, but
they were thoroughly discussed by the school principal noting their importance to the Olympics. As
structured sports rules must be observed, guidelines on scoring methods of playing the games were
given in advance to the game masters for a smooth facilitation of events. With its friendly yet structured
framework, one professional sport in the Olympics was played; Running. The events were officially
played right after the introduction of the members of the School Sports Club and its affiliations. As any
other sports competition, the school intramurals albeit it friendly purpose officially started with the
Pledge of Sportsmanship recited and led by Mr. Kenth Airex M. Laranjo, appointed president of the
School Sports Club.
Players were categorized into two levels; the lower level and the upper level. The lower level
games were centered to novelty games such as Windy Cup, Maria Went to Town (replacement for Walk
Like Mary), and Limbo Rock (replacement for Luksong Tinik). Each game were played enthusiastically
and facilitated with utmost vigor by the lower level class advisers who served as event masters. The
upper-level games were a mix of novelty games and an official sport. For the novelty games, an
alternative for Relay was played through the game called Around-and-about as well as an alternative for
shot put was played through the game called Transfer-In/Transfer-Out. For the Running Event,
promising young runners were spotted as the school principal himself led and conducted the event.
Providing his expertise on the game to the players. Young runners who enthusiastically won the running
events namely: Kenth Airex M. Laranjo and James D. Legaspi of the grade six level and John Micheal
Paya-paya of the grade five level. For the girls’s running event, Janica Obana and Sarah Jane Sotto of
the grade five level won the event.
With an invigorated spirit and renewed sense of camaraderie, the learners had the time of their
lives as they danced through the game of Statue Dance. The event ended with learners happy about the
ways a healthy and structured sports competition brings. School activities like Intramurals do not just
promote camaraderie, but also a great deal of patience and discipline among the learners as they learn
new ways, bond with fellow learners, and win exciting prices whilst having fun. As we slowly recover
from the effects of the pandemic, may events like this bring forth a stronger sense of passion and post-
pandemic community engagement activities to the learners and stakeholders alike.
