“Actuary” means a person qualified to calculate financial and commercial

impact and valuation of uncertainty and risk of future events by using
advanced techniques and models based on future scenarios under the
following situations :

What does an
ACTUARY DO
Actuaries are professionals skilled in evaluating the financial consequences
of uncertain future events. They utilize data science and analytics to
create financial models that predict risks and uncertainties based on past
trends and future forecasts. Primarily working in the insurance sector,
actuaries are crucial in designing products, pricing, managing assets and
liabilities, and conducting research. Their expertise also extends to
pensions, annuities, employee benefits, social security, and investment
valuations. Moreover, actuarial skills are increasingly applied in other
industries for risk management, cyber risk assessment, climate risk
management, and more. Actuaries hold key statutory roles globally in
managing long-term financial projects, ensuring they blend professional
rigour with strategic solutions for complex issues. Ethically, they are
committed to public welfare, upholding high integrity standards to protect
the financial promises of insurance and pension schemes.

Who Can Become An
ACTUARY
By virtue of the role of an Actuary as a multi-skilled professional in core
areas of financial risk and uncertainty, a candidate with strong skills in
Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics and Finance with good analytical
skills, logical reasoning coupled with willingness to put hard work
continuously to learn and pass all subjects of actuarial examinations can
be an ideal candidate.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
IFoA
Students who have completed 10+2 are eligible
Students who are in intermediate college are also eligible
Students can register for CM1 or CS1 (Any 1) without an IFoA
membership. To appear for subsequent exams you must obtain IFoA
membership.

IAI
ACET Route :
Any candidate who has appeared for :
10+2 or an equivalent examination and waiting for the result.
Can apply for ACET exam and once you clear the same you can sit for
further Actuarial papers.
Non-ACET Route :
The Institute has enhanced the criteria for IAI Student Membership and the
following qualifications are considered in lieu of the ACET Examination :

Ankit Patwari is a qualified CA, CPA (US), and
B.Com (Hons in Finance) from St. Xavier’s
College, Kolkata. He founded Balaji Educare and
has been teaching since 2009. With over 15
years of experience, he has guided 10,000+
students in CA, CS, CMA, B.Com and BBA. He
specialises in Actuarial paper CB1 and

SHIVANGEE AGARWAL
Shivangee Agarwal is a Qualified Actuary with a

Praveen Sir faced a lot of hardships in his student life but he didn’t let that
come in the way of his education. His determination and persistence
inspired him and others around him to not let small malfunctions stop the
entire working. Studying at St. Xavier’s College, qualifying for tough CA
examinations, clearing (14/15) Actuarial Papers, and establishing Actuators
Educational Institute, the aim is that no student should leave studies
because of financial reasons in the field of Actuaries, CA, CS, and CMA.

Pravesh Thakur, a bright mind who secured AIR 1 in CM1 unfortunately

drowned in water and is not with us today. To keep his name alive in the
Actuarial Fraternity and for the motive that money shouldn’t stop students
from studying, we started PT scholarship to provide financial aid in training
and mentoring to needy students with good academic excellence. This is a
need based scholarship and we will provide concessions in our tuition fees.
