INTRODUCTION

On-the-job training (OJT) is a training process that takes place in a realistic or close
to real working environment, with the trainee having an actual working role. It is an easy
way to gain additional skills and abilities required for a chosen field, allowing individuals
to get experience working in environments similar to those they will experience on the job.

Furthermore, OJT is relatively simple to execute because it utilizes existing

employees as trainers. Organizations could find the proper people for the job by offering
OJT, which allows them to assess the trainee’s skills during the training process. It also
helps attract good employees by decreasing stress and misunderstandings frequently faced
in changing work environments.

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major

in Financial Management must complete 600 hours of on-the-job training. For my on-the-
job training (OJT), I had the opportunity to work at SEDMFI from February 12 to May 30,
2024. This experience allowed me to apply the knowledge and skills I gained from my
studies for a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Financial
Management and build additional abilities in an actual work environment.

As a trainee, my primary duties and responsibilities included filling out loan

application paperwork while assisting clients in receiving incentives. Sir Marvin, Arniel,
and Ma’am Marivic, my bookkeeper, accounting clerk, and cashier, all offered direction
and comments to help me do well in my role. Overall, my OJT at SEDMFI was an
incredible chance to learn, which helped me develop both professionally and personally.
In the following sections, I’ll review the individual tasks I worked on, the skills I learned,
and the lessons I learned during this training period. I am honored for the opportunity, and
I believe it has prepared me well for my future career in business administration with a
major in financial management.

OJT EXPERIENCE

Throughout my 600 hours of on-the-job training at SEDMFI, I gained valuable

experiences and skills that will be very helpful for my future employment. This hands-on
training helped me build essential abilities and deal with setbacks in the real world. My
internship taught me how to face and handle problems in a work environment. I developed
the ability to adjust to different situations and interact with various people in a timely
manner.

As a result of this experience, I have developed the desire and skill to tackle the
difficulties required for success in my career. During my on-the-job training, I realized the
value of recognizing mistakes as opportunities for personal development.

I realized that making mistakes is an essential aspect of the learning process and
that the true test of success is how effectively one manages failures. This awareness has
improved my understanding, adjusting, and committing to continued improvement. During
my internship, I learned the value of keeping a positive mentality in the face of challenges.
I've noticed that having a positive view improves connections, productivity, and overall
well-being.

During my on-the-job training at SEDMFI, I had the chance to learn and use new
skills in real-world scenarios. I learned how to reflect on tasks, analyze scenarios that
involve, and make the right choices. This real-world experience has enhanced my academic
knowledge, which has also helped me better appreciate the abilities needed to succeed in
my chosen field.

PROBLEM MET DURING TRAINING

One of the most significant problems I encountered was correctly calculating

remittances. As an accountable individual trainee, I saw the value of maintaining financial
accuracy for our clients. However, I did find myself making mistakes throughout the
process, sometimes resulting in record changes. This issue caused inconvenience for our
credit officer and cashier.

As a shy person, I encountered difficulties dealing with many clients. Interacting

with people was often difficult, and I struggled to communicate effectively. This difficulty
became most apparent when I had to handle client inquiries. I would get nervous and forget
important information, resulting in a lack of clarity and dissatisfaction.

The lack of sufficient space also affected the training process. Space was a
constraint, especially when training included hands-on activities or calculations that
required something particular.

Another key problem I encountered was my supervisor need for more performance
and engagement. His hectic schedules and apparent lack of interest in how I was developing
could have severely hindered my career development.

Some of my co-trainees’ lack of initiative had an impact on the training

surroundings as well. When given activities that called for collaboration and cooperation,
I often encountered coworkers who were unwilling to take part or support the efforts of
others.

The training environment added problems in the form of distractions and improper
conditions. Noise, movement, and other distractions made it harder for me to concentrate
on the tasks at hand, causing less attention. Furthermore, the training area occasionally had
inaccurate temperature conditions, such as being too much cold which caused physical
discomfort affecting my ability to focus precisely.

SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the problem mentioned, I suggest an adaptable and proactive approach.

Seek guidance and assistance from experts in the field to improve your financial
computation and record-keeping abilities, and practice often to develop a more accurate
and precise way of doing your work. When it comes to client interactions, actively practice
paying attention and clear communication skills, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification
when necessary, and follow up with clients to ensure their concerns are dealt with. Step
beyond your comfort zone and look for opportunities to communicate with clients; this will
help you become more confident and effective in what you do. Observe and learn from
your colleagues who do well at client-facing tasks.

If you encounter insufficient facilities, adjust the way you work and find creative
ways to learn and work within the current boundaries, and provide positive feedback to
your supervisor about the need for bigger facilities to assist the training process
productively. To deal with your supervisor’s lack of performance and engagement, seek
mentorship and guidance from other experienced colleagues in the organization,
communicate your needs and concerns to your supervisor in a professional and positive
manner, maintain a positive attitude and focus on your personal growth, and take the
initiative to set specific objectives and track how you’re doing.

When dealing with co-trainees’ lack of initiative, lead by example and show a solid
dedication to the job and to the course of action. Encourage your co-trainees to participate

actively and take part in the information they receive. Encourage a sense of shared duty
and collaboration among the trainees. Provide encouragement and recognition for your co-
trainees’ efforts and achievements.

Finally, to create an improved atmosphere, identify quiet spaces or areas where you
can focus on your work with minimal distractions; dress appropriately for the temperature
conditions to ensure your comfort and communicate any concerns about the trainee
environment to your supervisor and seek their support.
