a) Title of the project


Volunteaching (volunteer teaching)

b) Introduction of the project

Sanggar Madrasatul Madmudiah is situated in a locality that has been grappling with persistent
socio-economic difficulties. A significant number of households in this locality encounter
restricted resources, which encompass inadequate access to education of high caliber. The
institution was founded with the altruistic objective of offering complimentary education and
fostering the cognitive, affective, and interpersonal growth of underprivileged youngsters,
acknowledging the pressing necessity to narrow this disparity. Participating in these
transformative initiatives has instilled in me a sense of purpose and a profound passion to
contribute to the comprehensive development of these juvenile scholars.

Through my experience of volunteering at Sanggar Madrasatul Mahmudiah, I have had the


opportunity to observe firsthand the profound impact that education can have on individuals.
On a daily basis, I observe the enthusiasm displayed by students as they actively acquire
knowledge and venture into uncharted territories. Notwithstanding the obstacles encountered in
their extracurricular lives, these juveniles exhibit exceptional fortitude and an eagerness for
education that is genuinely motivating. I am honored to contribute to their academic progress
and instill in them a sense of self-efficacy. I choice to engage in a volunteer teaching initiative at
Sanggar Madrasatul Mahmudiah is rooted in their strong conviction regarding the influential
potential of education, as well as their dedication to effecting constructive alterations in the
circumstances of underprivileged youth.

The objective of this initiative is to equip individuals with the necessary resources and expertise
to overcome the recurring pattern of destitution and establish a more promising prospect for
themselves and their locality. In collaboration with the committed faculty at the educational
institution, I am privileged to contribute to this pedagogical initiative aimed at nurturing optimism
and enabling the intellectual development of juveniles through incremental instruction.

c) Project Information

• Objective

• To promote educational access and equity through the provision of complimentary


educational opportunities and materials, with the intention of dismantling the
obstacles that impede underprivileged children from obtaining high-quality
education. My pedagogical endeavors aim to establish an all-encompassing and
supportive atmosphere that fosters academic and personal growth for each student,
irrespective of their socio-economic status.

• To promote comprehensive growth by utilizing captivating instructional strategies


and participatory exercises, with the intention of cultivating the learners' ability to
analyze and evaluate information, generate novel ideas, and enhance their self-
assurance, thereby equipping them to be versatile members of society who can
make constructive contributions.

• The notion of education as a transformative journey that transcends the confines of a


traditional classroom setting is a compelling one, as it underscores the importance of
fostering lifelong learning. By employing innovative and engaging pedagogical
approaches, my aim is to foster a sense of inquisitiveness and a thirst for learning. My
objective is to instill a fervor for education in my students, thereby enabling them to
develop into individuals who are committed to ongoing personal development and
achievement, notwithstanding any obstacles that may arise during their academic
pursuits.

d) Daily activity report

5. Field Work: Teaching 1st week


We began our first class on, Second of May, 2023. To inaugurate the first week of our transformative
Volunteaching program, we orchestrated a captivating series of games and activities, designed with
the intent of not only fostering enjoyment but also setting the stage for the exciting agenda that lay
ahead. This meticulously planned initiative aimed to create a lively and engaging atmosphere,
infusing a sense of anticipation and camaraderie among the young participants. Through these
engaging game sessions, we aimed to create lasting memories, leaving an indelible impression that
would carry over into the forthcoming educational sessions. By infusing an element of excitement
and playfulness, we hoped to capture the children's attention and pique their interest in the upcoming
agenda, ensuring their active participation and receptiveness to the transformative educational
experiences that awaited them.

6. Field Work: Teaching 2nd Week


Immersed in the heart of this exceptional event, I had the privilege of assuming the noble
responsibility of imparting knowledge and facilitating transformative learning experiences to the
young participants. With unwavering dedication, I adeptly undertook the role of an educator, guiding

them through diverse subjects including Arts, Basic Maths, and Civics, embarking on an educational
odyssey that spanned the realms of creativity, logical thinking, and civic awareness.

5. Field Work: Teaching 3rd Week

As the second week of our Volunteaching journey unfolded, I found myself confronted with the reality
that many of the children still harbored gaps in their foundational understanding of basic math
concepts. Rather than allowing discouragement to prevail, this realization served as a powerful
catalyst, propelling me to embark on a mission to bridge the knowledge gap, provide unwavering
support, and ignite a newfound motivation within each and every young learner.

5. Field Work: Teaching 4th Week


As we delved into the third week of our Volunteaching journey, we embraced a profound spiritual
dimension by coming together to recite Al-Quran, seeking solace in the divine words and fostering a
deeper connection with Allah. This sacred practice served as a powerful reminder of our humble

existence and an expression of gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon us, recognizing that all we
possess is but a mere gift from the Almighty.

6. Last teaching and Closing Ceremony

On the momentous occasion of the 16th of June, 2023, a significant milestone was
reached as the volunteer teaching program, which had hitherto provided invaluable
educational support, was ceremoniously brought to a close. Prior to this momentous
culmination, a poignant opportunity presented itself to engage in one final teaching
session, enriched by an assortment of stimulating educational games, effectively imbuing
the children with lasting knowledge and memorable experiences. In order to commemorate
the conclusion of this altruistic endeavor, a heartfelt and joyous event was meticulously
organized at the school premises, wherein a multitude of meaningful activities were
meticulously orchestrated to bid farewell to the children, symbolizing the profound impact
that this endeavor had on their lives.

e). Program Evaluation

• Strengths

o One of my notable strengths is my genuine passion for the education of children. I was
highly dedicated to making a positive impact on their lives. Emphasizing their Indonesian
identity, I aspire to surpass expectations by motivating and cultivating a passion for further
exploration of their cultural heritage and ancestral origins.

o One of my strengths is patience, which proved to be particularly valuable when confronted


with the challenges that arose during the volunteaching session. The recognition that
progress may be a gradual process and that obstacles may arise necessitates the
cultivation of patience. This quality enables me to offer sustained assistance, motivation,
and direction to the students.

• Weakness

o The topic of discussion is classroom management. It is my belief that I possess insufficient


experience in effectively managing a classroom or addressing behavioral challenges
exhibited by students. It is my belief that the establishment of effective classroom
management strategies will necessitate supplementary exertion.

o The effective allocation of time proved to be a demanding task as I endeavored to balance


my personal obligations, volunteer engagements, and other duties. Given the occurrence of
Hari Raya and mid-term exams, I had to meticulously strategize a timeline to ensure optimal
allocation of my time and resources, while simultaneously avoiding neglect of my other
academic commitments.

• Limitations and Challenges

o The student population at this sanggar presents a challenge in terms of governance. As an


informal educational institution, a significant number of students exhibit a reluctance to
comply with assigned tasks. Our proposed solution involves exercising patience and
avoiding undue haste in order to facilitate a smoother progression to subsequent tasks.

o It has been observed that students tend to lose interest when they are taught academic
majors that are deemed useful. The subjects of mathematics and language are included in

my schedule, with the former being taught on Fridays. During these sessions, engaging
activities are typically employed. However, my understanding of the difficulty level of
teaching these subjects was limited until I attended a class session on 19th May, 2023,
where mathematics was the focus of instruction. The children exhibit a limited capacity for
attentive listening and struggle to maintain focus. Our approach involves a deliberate effort
to impart knowledge at a measured pace, while simultaneously incorporating engaging
elements to enhance the learning experience.

o The location of the Sanggar in Sentul Timur is situated at a considerable distance from the
residences of most individuals who attend, particularly those who reside in close proximity
to UM. Consequently, the utilization of public transportation to reach the destination would
require an estimated travel time of approximately one hour, which may result in tardiness.
Our proposed approach involves convening at the LRT university to ensure punctuality and
facilitate group coordination.

o The physical space of the sanggar is insufficient to accommodate the large number of
students and volunteers. This was evident during the inaugural activity session, where the
front door had to be opened and individuals had to occupy the veranda due to the limited
capacity of the sanggar. In order to address this issue, a dialogue was initiated with the host,
Pak Saheh, resulting in his agreement to tailor the accommodations to the students' individual
learning objectives on a weekly basis. By utilizing this approach, we can optimize our time
management and facilitate an enjoyable learning experience for the students.

o By participating in volunteer teaching activities, I can improve my pedagogical abilities. The


author intends to acquire hands-on experience in devising and executing instructional plans,
modifying pedagogical approaches to cater to diverse learning modalities, and proficiently
involving and regulating a group of students. The acquisition of these competencies can
prove to be advantageous in prospective teaching or mentoring positions.

o The act of engaging in volunteer teaching activities requires the demonstration of leadership
skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with fellow volunteers and the children being
taught. Consequently, I was afforded the chance to assume leadership positions, facilitate
events, and make valuable contributions to the advancement of the program. The
aforementioned experiences are expected to augment my proficiency in leadership,
teamwork, and collaborative work.

o Engaging in volunteer work frequently results in personal growth and introspection. The
individual intends to acquire a deeper understanding of their personal strengths,
weaknesses, and values. This particular experience has the potential to facilitate the
development of a more profound sense of purpose, broaden one's perspective, and
cultivate a sustained dedication to effecting positive change within society, specifically within
the Indonesian context.

My principal contribution pertains to imparting education and knowledge to children who are
disadvantaged. By virtue of my enthusiasm for education, I impart to my students significant
scholarly knowledge, endowing them with the necessary resources to potentially achieve their
aspirations.
In addition to academic contributions, my volunteer work enables me to offer mentorship and
guidance to students. During the quiz on Indonesia, I offered guidance to assist participants in
gaining a deeper understanding of their country of origin.

The volunteer program has the potential to facilitate my personal development and acquisition of

at the sanggar, however, this course has enabled me to utilize my time at the sanggar more
effectively. My proactive engagement at the sanggar is expected to serve as a catalyst for
motivating my fellow Indonesian acquaintances to partake in the activities.
