CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
The Electrical Installation and Maintenance is part of the

Technical-Vocational track and it was an industrial art. The students are

specialized with analysing signs, electrical symbols and data, interpretation of

technical drawings and plans, maintaining of electric hydraulic tools,

installation of electric metallic tubing, wire ways and cable trays; installing

telephone terminal cabinet, cable Bridge. And also the selection of wiring

devices used for floor and ground fault current interrupter which is based from

the Philippine Electrical Code standards. (MFI FOUNDATION, 2014). This

strand consists of laboratory activities to show the effectiveness of developing

the Electrical Installation and Maintenance students’ skills essential to the field

of electrical. Every student begins with the basic fundamentals of electricity

and wiring of simple circuits, then will proceed to the advanced phases which

are the residential interior wiring, the alternating current power, and wiring of

more complex circuits and equipment. For the National Electrical Code,
16

emphasis when it comes to working on wirings should be applied. (Honolulu,

2011)

Nigeria – That there are needs for manpower development in electrical

installation and maintenance works for economic growth of any nation and

overall benefit of man is an indisputable fact. This development according to

Puyate (2018) cannot be possible without practitioners in the field of Technical

and vocational Education and Training (TVET) paying special attention to

practical skills acquisition. The acquisition of workplace skills seen globally as

a cardinal driver economic and technological development (Jane Raymond &

Patrick, 2017).

The Philippine is competing to the other country in terms of education,

that’s why DepEd Implemented the K-12 curriculum (academic and technical

vocation track) Electrical Installation and Maintenace (EIM) is under technical

vocational track. This strand is designed to prepare students with entry level

knowledge and manipulative skills for employment in the electrical industry.

The program combines theory with laboratory activities as an effective means

of developing the skills essentials to the electrical track.

DAVAO CITY – The Samal Senior High School in the Island Garden

City of Samal (IGACOS) Became a beneficiary of an Electrical Installation and

Maintenance (EIM) laboratory dubbed Project e.Lab donated by Aboitiz Power

Corp. (Aboitiz Power Subsidiary Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. (DAVAO

LIGHT) and the Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Aboitiz Foundation). “ This new EIM

laboratory is more than just a physical structure; it is a symbol of our shared

commitment to education and unwavering belief in the power of knowledge

17

and transformed lives” said Samal Senior High School Principle Percival

Villegas.

“ it is a testament to our community unwavering spirit of collaboration and

determination to provide all students with the very best possible learning

environment.

REVIEW of RELATED LITERATURE

In exploring this study, we can see how students develop their skills in

enhancing practical skills acquisition in electrical installation and maintenance,

in this chapter presents a brief review of related literature and studies that are

related in local, national and international.

Workplace Training

According to Lucas, Cooper, Ward, and Cave (2009), earning a degree in a

student's field may also provide them with the best idea of subject-related

career options from a career development viewpoint. Canter (2000)

emphasizes the importance of the workplace in helping people develop their

employment-related skills, and Calway and Murphy (2002) claim that students

who participate in placement programs are more successful in finding jobs

after graduation and advancing in their careers than students who do not.

According to Piquart et al. (2003), better industry knowledge and

comprehension aid in the transition from education to job. Work experience in

the sector aids students in gaining the interpersonal communication and

teamwork skills necessary in the workplace as well as an understanding of the

realities of an organization's operations. Importantly, the chance to learn is

provided so that people can test and practice their skills. Students with

expertise get the ability to evaluate their own talents and confidence in their

capacity to carry out the task that will be required of them in the future. In

other words, they increase their confidence in their ability to perform duties in

the workplace.
21
22

Jim Aboitiz (2015), who was present for the formal handover of the DCNHS

(Davao City National High School) Vocational Building's electrical laboratory

facility, said, "We hope these e-labs ignite the passion for learning and

innovation in its students. We are also thankful and appreciative with the

strong partnership we have forged with the local government, DepEd, and

now with TESDA for the benefit of our youth." There is an increasing need for

competent electricians as the real estate market in Davao and other places

expands. This let Davao Light realize the value of having a fully functional e-

lab that will not only serve as training for students choosing the vocational

path but also serve as an excellent foundation for developing skilled

electricians.

Additionally, based on the classification of the organization of APL in different

nations, APL, or school-based assessment, has been extensively researched

on a global scale (Harris, Breier, & Wihak, 2011; Per Andersson &Stenlund,

2012). Numerous studies (Andersen & Laugesen, 2012; Halttunen, Koivisto, &

Billett, 2014, p. 3- 15) concentrate on the departmental position and the

political history for APL, for example with regards to lifelong learning,

employability, and in relation to economic, social, and cultural reasons.

Different definitions exist for "previous learning" (Billett, Bound, & Lin, 2014).

Bohlinger (2013) asserts that using formal requirements as the benchmark to

highlight particular issues: Qualifications are understood and expertise that

can be fairly described and are useful," says the basic foundation for defining

limitations and capabilities. In contrast, the idea of expertise encompasses

many other aspects, including people's abilities and talents as well as their
23

feeling of desire and resolve (p. 288). While understanding acquired via life

and job experience may be as significant as formal, academic learning,

(Cooper and Harris, 2013) managed this topic with regard to higher level

education and pointed out that "these two forms of knowledge are not the

same.

Job-Ready Assessments

Davao Light and Power Co., a division of Aboitiz Power Corp. Inc. (Davao

Light) of 2023 has continued to promote education and personal development

while making attempts to aid its host community's residents upskill in order to

foster growth and business development. Davao Light utilized its resources in

collaboration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority

(TESDA) to create educational and job possibilities in Davao City. It gave a

newly refurbished Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) facility, along

with the necessary tools and equipment, to the Provincial Training Center of

TESDA in Tugbok District, Davao City, in March. The donation was valued a

total of P2.4 million. Students taking courses will benefit from a safer and

more favorable learning environment thanks to the EIM facility. The given

equipment and materials will support the study of telephone, CCTV, and fire

alarm systems. Additionally, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is offered

in accordance with industry safety regulations. Following the installation of the

first EIM facility at the TESDA Regional Training Center-Korea Philippines

24

Training Center in Tibungco, Davao City, this is the second EIM facility

donated to TESDA. Since 2015, Davao Light has collaborated with TESDA.

Assessments have reportedly been done in senior high school, according to

(Carlo Magno & Tristan Posang, 2016). From the beginning to the end of the

cycle, assessments are made at various levels, from the classroom to the

level of an international evaluation. The activity, objective, connection to

students' knowledge, and duty from the classroom to authorities are all

described for each level of assessment. These levels of assessment entail

placing students in senior high school tracks, classroom-based evaluation,

assessment of acquired skills, participation in the international convention of

abilities, evaluation of collegiate preparedness, and evaluation of career

options.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
ELECTRICAL THEORY
According to Garduque (2012), in his study stated that learning theories were

not enough we need to have skills to do things. Those skills are technical

skills and livelihood program, which may help the student and graduates to

become skilled workers of future. An electrician is a tradesman specializing in

electrical wiring of buildings, transmission lines, stationary machines, and

related equipment. Electricians may be employs in the installation of new

electrical components or the maintenance and repair of existing electrical

infrastructure. Electricians may also specialize in wiring ships, airplanes, and

other mobile platforms, as well as data and cable lines.

Skills in Electrical Installation and Maintenance.

25

While this career path may be appealing to many people, there are

approximately electrical engineer requirements that cannot be taught in a

classroom or during an internship. It is important to determine if you have the

skills. work, otherwise your safety and the safety of people around you may

be at risk: Mechanical aptitude is a skill that can diagnose the mechanism of

something like relay and magnetic contactor. Mechanical aptitude is also

important being engineer because it can solve mechanical problems with or

without electrical equipment.

DEFINATION OF TERMS

Practical skills. are self-help and life-saving skills and lessons that you can

learn (often easily), teach to others, and practice every day to prepare and

protect your and others' health. Most practical skills do not require special

certification or formal training to perform, but you do need education.

Electrical installations. concern the fitting of new electrical appliances and

systems. Electrical maintenance, on the other hand, is the ongoing care,

repair, and troubleshooting of systems and equipment that provide electricity

to commercial and industrial facilities.

CCTV (closed-circuit television). is a TV system in which signals are not

publicly distributed but are monitored, primarily for surveillance and security

purposes.
26

CHAPTER 2

METHODS
In this chapter, the description of the Research Design, Research

Locale, Respondent of the Study, Sampling Technique, Method of Data

Collection, and Data Analysis are presented.

Research Design
Quantitative Research Design is the research method of the study. The

study utilizes survey questionnaires, a type of descriptive research under the

research method of quantitative study design. This design is appropriate for

this

study since the researchers used a school survey to determine the strategies

of senior high school students.

Research Locale
The study will be conducted at Santo Niño National High School, it is

situated at Barangay Santo Niño, Tugbok District Davao City. It started its

operation on the 4th day of June 2000.

Respondents of the Study

27

The respondents of the study will be thirty ___ senior high school

students from different k-12 strands among the Grade 11 and 12 learners in

Santo Niño National High School.

Sampling Technique
Purposive sampling is a non-probability method for obtaining a sample where

researchers use their expertise to choose specific participants that will help

the study meet its goals. These subjects have particular characteristics that

the researchers need to evaluate their research question. In other words, the

researchers pick the participants “on purpose.” (Jim Frost) Purposive

sampling, also known as judgmental, selective, or subjective sampling, is a

form of non-probability sampling in which researchers rely on their own

judgment when choosing members of the population to participate in their

surveys.

This survey sampling method requires researchers to have prior knowledge

about the purpose of their studies so that they can properly choose

and approach eligible participants for surveys conducted using online survey

platforms like Alchemer. Researchers use purposive sampling when they want

to access a particular subset of people, as all participants of a survey are

selected because they fit a particular profile. (Alchemer, 2021)

28

Research Instrument

A survey questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of

questions to gather information from the respondents. A survey questionnaire

was designed and distributed for this study to gather information from

selected respondents from Grade 11 and 12 SHS students who took the EIM

STRAND in Santo Niño National High School. The goal was to gather the

primary source of data.

Data Gathering Procedure

The procedure of amassing facts had the inception of a session and

dialogue with the studies adviser for the intended place of hobby and subject

matter to investigate. The follow-up step is to pick the hassle and appropriate

questions which have applied to the hassle at hand. Subsequently, the

researcher formulated the studies survey questionnaire and created an

internet shape to be dispensed on social media. Afterward, the tool turned into

proven

via way of means of the studies adviser to test the appropriateness and

coherence of the questionnaire. Next, the researcher is knowledgeable and

asks consent from every respondent to take part in the survey. Lastly, the
29

researcher accumulated the facts from the Google paperwork to be tallied,

tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted with confidentiality.

30

Data Analysis

In this part of the study, the gathered data on the questionnaires that

were answered by thirty ___ respondents are evaluated by using the formula

below:

Frequency and Percentage Distribution- These statistical tools were used

to

tally the socio-demographic profile of the respondents. The percentage was

used to get the proportion of the frequencies of responses.

Weighted Mean- The responses were tailed and treated statistically using the

weighted mean. The weighted mean is defined as the summation of the

observed values multiplied by the allocation weights which is divided by the

summation of the observed values.

The table shown below determines the result of the gathered and computed

data, the researcher set a range from 1.00 to 5.00 to satisfy the mean

accumulated.
31
32

Ethical Consideration

Ethics is defined as a moral philosophy with a system of moral principles

that deal with how these principles affect how people make decisions and how

they lead their lives.(BBC Ethics,2014) The researchers consider the following

statements to be valid reasons to consider my ethics throughout the research

process. First, as a researcher, we justify conducting this research by making

every effort to avoid falsification, falsification, or misunderstanding of the data.

The researchers will publish my truthful data, results, methods, and

procedures reports. Second, we will make every effort to avoid bias in my

research design, data analysis and interpretation, and other aspects of

research where objectivity is expected or necessary. Thirdly, the researcher

will properly reference and give credit to the owner or authors of the source

material to respect patents, rights, and other forms of intellectual property. In

addition, they will not engage in any form of plagiarism. Last but not least, we

promise to maintain the respondents' privacy by not disclosing their identities,

information, or names.
