Types of Vegetable Gardening
School Gardening
refers to the growing of vegetables on the school grounds for
instructional purposes

Home Gardening
refers to growing vegetables for home consumption
usually done near the home

Truck Gardening
refers to the growing of vegetables and other crops for commercial
purposes, done in large tracts of land, transporting goods to market in near
and far areas

Types of Fertilizers
Organic/Natural fertilizer
made up of decaying/decomposing substances or matter like manure of animals,
dried leaves, peel of veggies, and leftover food

Inorganic/Chemical fertilizer
it is made up of chemicals and is a commercial type of fertilizer
Types of soil
Sandy soil – a kind of soil composed of rough particles of sand and
gravel (not suited for planting)

Silt soil – a combination of sand and loam particles (suitable for certain
kinds of plants)

Loam soil – a combination of fine particles and humus (humus provides


plants with nutrients necessary for their growth)

Clay – consists of very fine particles that become very hard when dry and
sticky when wet (not suitable for planting)
Tools for Gardening
Hand Trowel
A trowel is a small hand tool used for digging, applying, smoothing, or moving small
amounts of particulate material.
Shovel
A shovel is a tool used to dig as well as to move loose, granular materials (like dirt,
gravel, grain, or snow) from one spot to another.
Garden Fork
It is used for loosening, lifting, and turning over soil in gardening and farming.
Hoe
A hoe is an ancient and versatile agricultural hand tool used to shape soil, remove
weeds, clear soil, and harvest root crops.
Rake
Rakes are effectively designed to pick up leaves and other garden debris without
damaging the lawn and the soil beneath.
Hand Sprinkler
A hand sprinkler is a device used to spray water. Sprinklers are used to water plants
or grass

between two parent plants.

2. Asexual Propagation – a part of the plant-like stem or


a branch is planted in the soil.
Harvesting and Marketing Vegetables
Harvesting The process of gathering or picking harvestable parts of a plant.
Maturity The condition of a certain crop that is ready to harvest.
Maturity Indices The observable indications that a crop can already be
harvested.

Market A place where people meet to sell or buy things.
Marketing The act of transferring goods from one who produces to the one
who uses the goods.

to provide service or goods to the community and provide profit to the owner of
the business.
