Bitumen, Tar and Related Products Sectional Committee, PCD 06

FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the draft finalized by
the Bitumen, Tar and Related Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Petroleum, Coal and
Related Product Division Council.

The road system in the country is developing at a very rapid rate and as a result, the old sources of road aggregates
with proven performance characteristics are getting fast depleted. The new bitumen roads are expected to have
higher loads and extended resistance to raveling and pothole formation. To ascertain the suitability of aggregates,
a method for testing for the property of adhesion of aggregates with different types of bituminous binders was
prepared with considerable assistance from Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi.

This standard was first published in 1971. This revision has been brought out to keep pace with the latest
technological developments and international practices. In this revision following major changes have been
incorporated:
a) Scope of the standard has been modified to align the applicability of the binders;
b) New clauses of reference, terminology, and apparatus have been incorporated; and
c) Range of temperature have been modified.

The composition of the Committee responsible for formulation of this standard is given in Annex A.

In reporting the result of a test or analysis made in accordance with this standard, if the final value, observed or
calculated, is to be rounded off, it shall be done in accordance with IS 2 : 2022 ‘Rule for rounding off numerical
values (second revision)’.
