CHAPTER -1
THE CONCEPTS OF COMPUTER NETWORKING

Application Oriented Questions.

Q1.Lohia Fancy Inc. is planning to connect each computer in the


office building spread over within small distance. Suggest the
economical transmission media having high speed transfer rate
which can be used to connect these computers.
Ans: LAN network will be formed as it is used to connect computers
with in a small geographical area i.e a room or a building.
Transmission Media : Ethernet cable will be used as a transmission
media in LAN network. Latest Ethernet cable is cat6.

2. Ropak is planning to connect all his offices spread across the


country via computer network. Which type of computer network
do you suggest him for this purpose name the devices required for
this?
Ans : Internet is required which is an example of Wide Area
Network(WAN) to connect all the offices of Rupak spread across the
country.
Devices Required- Modem ,Router and switch i.e centralised device.

Q1. You are planning to buy a computer for your office. You have to
decide about the Operating System to get installed in it. Undergo a
comparative study to choose the best option as per your needs.
ANS: There are different types of operating system available in the
market.
If you are planning to purchase a computer for your office then you
should opt for a multitasking operating system as in office we need
to perform multiple work simultaneously.
The two most popularly used Multitasking Computer System are
Windows And Linux.
No operating system is best .The right operating system is one which
fulfils your criteria and your requirement.
WINDOWS AND LINUX COMPARISON
1. Windows is more user friendly than Linux.
WINDOWS is GUI based user -friendly OS.If you are not working
with high tech computer professionals , you should purchase
windows for your office as no specific training required to use
this operating system.
If you are working with professionals who are more
proficient with using commands then Linux should be
preferred.

2. SECURITY – If security is not the priority then opt for windows


as it provides average security.
But if you are working with high end data where
security is the major concern you should purchase Linux .
It gives you top security.
3.SOFTWARE AVAILABILITY – If your work is to deal with
different different software’s so go for windows.Windows are
so popular that you can easily find windows bases software
which is not the case with Linux.

4.MODIFICATION – Linus is an open source software so it gives


you liberty to modify and customize the operating system time
to time.
Windows doesn’t provide modification in the operating system
but it only provides some basic customization features.

5.Anti Virus – No anti virus is required in Linux.


6.You can work with multiple terminal in Linux but in windows
you have only one.

If you want a cheaper Operating system and security is not a


concern and need for normal office work , go for Windows else
Linux is good to go.

Q1.A Organisation, conducting a survey has prepared a list of
those cars of different companies that are on road and were
manufactured before the year 2000 and stored it in Excel
worksheet. Now organization wants pictorial representation
of collected information. Name the feature of Excel which will
help the organization for the Same along with their benefits.
Ans: Microsoft Excel 2007 provides you powerful and easy tool
to present data in the pictorial from called Charts.
1.It helps you to create different types of charts and way of
customizing the charts components.
2.It allows you to format the chart components as well.

Q2.Reema wants pictorial representation of data that she


collected for population of Tiger all over the world. Tell her all
the way to use chart option for achieving the same.
Ans:
1.First create a table of all the data of tigers all over the world.
2.Select the data in the worksheet that is to be plotted,
including the column headers.
3.Click on Insert tab and in the charts group , click on a chart
category to expand the list options available, select the chart of
your choice.
4.A new chart of the selected type will appear.

Q3. Ravikiran wants pictorial representation of data that he


collected for making record of tree planted in his area week
wise. Now tell him the feature of Microsoft Excel that he
should uses for this purpose.
Ans: Microsoft Excel offers wide range of charts , which you can
create using the data entered in the worksheet.
Charts helps you to create pictorial representation of data.
