I will read the direction carefully.

This activity called “LAB-STATION”. Using
the materials you found in the Station 2,
you are going to perform Balloon in a Hot
and Cold Water and answer the guide
questions below. You have 5 minutes to
complete the experiment.

Guide Questions:
1. What happens to the balloon in the hot
water and the cold water?

2. How Does Temperature Affect the Size

(please see attach file for full instruction) of a Balloon?

3. Based on your observation, what is the

relationship of temperature and volume of
a fixed amount of gas?

( Group 2 raising their flag)

Awesome! Group 2 are already finished
the activity.
Group 1, are you done?
Yes, Sir
Okay, let's check
EXPLAIN Based on your observation you
performed about "Balloon in a hot and
cold water" experiment. Let's answer the
guide questions.

1. What happens to the balloon in the hot

water and the cold water?
Group 1? Group 1. The balloon in hot water expands
due to increased temperature causing the
Group 2? air inside to expand.

Group 2. The balloon in cold water

contracts as the temperature decreases,
Republic of the Philippines

COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION

leading to a decrease in the volume of air

inside the balloon.
2. How Does Temperature Affect the
Size of a Balloon?
Group 1? Group 1. When exposed to hot
temperatures, a balloon expands as the air
inside heats up and molecules move
faster, increasing volume.
Group 2?
Group 2. In cold temperatures, a balloon
contracts as the air cools down, causing
the molecules to slow down, reducing
volume inside the balloon.
3. Based on your observation, what is the
relationship of temperature and volume
of a fixed amount of gas?
Group 1? Group 1. Observations show that when the
temperature of a fixed amount of gas
increases, its volume expands, and when
temperature decreases, the volume
contracts.
Group 2?
Group 2. 1. The relationship between
temperature and volume of a fixed amount
of gas is described by Charles's Law. As
temperature increases, the volume of the
gas expands proportionally.
Both groups are nice observer. You will
understand how expansion in hot water,
contraction in cold water balloon
experiment. Thank you for you
participation.

Now, Let’s find out

What you are looking at is a graph
demonstrating the relationship between
volume and temperature at constant
Pressure.

Can please describe what the graph is

trying to say? Yes, frank? The Graph shows how temperature
affects the volume. Based on the trend in
the graph. it gives us the idea that an
increase in temperature results in an
increase in the volume of a gas.
Yes, that’s correct!

To make things a little bit challenging

and interesting. We will now be moving
on to the calculations of the changes in
volume and temperature using the

Charles’ law formula:

represented by this formula.
Republic of the Philippines
Baao Community College
COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION
San Juan, Baao, Camarines Sur

The equation will become where:

T1 = initial temperature of the gas

T2 = final temperature of the gas

V1 = initial volume of the gas

V2 = final volume of the gas

We can use this general
formula in finding out the
initial and final temperature
and volume.

Let’s try this problem

1.) A balloon is filled to a volume of 2.20

L at a temperature of 25.0 °C. The
balloon is then heated to a temperature
of 51.0 °C. Find the new volume of the
balloon.

V1= 2.20 L
V2=?
T1= 25°C + 273.15 K= 298.15 k
T2 = 51.0 °C + 273.15 K = 324.15 K

Formula :
V1/T2= V2/T1
V2 = V1T2

V2 = (2.20L)(298.15k)/(324.15k)
V2 =2.3l

Did you understand class?

Yes, Sir
Very good.
ELABORATE Now, get ½ crosswise of paper and
please answer this 2 questions
individually within 5 minutes. I will collect
your paper whether you done or not.
1.) At 20°C, the volume of chlorine gas is
15dcm³. Compute the resulting volume if
the temperature is adjusted to 318K
provided that the pressure remains the
same.

Answer:
V1T2= V2T1
V2 = V1T2
Republic of the Philippines
Baao Community College
COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION
San Juan, Baao, Camarines Sur

V2 = (15dm³)(318k) /(20°C+273.15k)
V=2.4L

2.) A cylinder with a movable piston

contains 250c * m ^ 3 air at 10 deg * C If
the pressure is kept constant, at what
temperature would you expect the volume
to be 150cm³?

Answer:
T2 =V2 T1 /V 1
=(1 50 cm3 ) (10°C + 273.15) / 250cm3
= 170K
Are you done class?
Yes, Sir
Pass your paper forward.
Generalization Okay, Charles law stated that volume
occupied by a fixed amount of gas is
directly proportional to its absolute
temperature, If the pressure remains
constant.

Class, what is Charles law aw formula?

( The students raise their hand)
Christian?
V1/T1=V2/T2
T1= initial temperature of the gas
T2= final temperature of the gas
V1= initial volume of the gas
V2= final volume of the gas
Thank you, Christian
