EDUC7155 Assignment 2 - Learning Design Product and Microteaching

(Group)

Task:
Learning design is complex, requiring different kinds of knowledge and skills, including subject
domain knowledge and skills, knowledge of how people learn, and to be able to design
appropriate learning environments, tasks and resources to support student's learning, including
the provision of relevant feedback based on a well-designed assessment of students' learning
outcomes.

To help students master both the conceptual and practical aspects of learning design. This
course is organized around a group project which runs throughout the eight sessions. Each
group (not more than four people) must submit a learning design product of two sessions (~2 x
30mins) blended or fully online lessons that can be implemented in real-life situations. It can
range from elementary school to higher/adult education and can be used in formal or informal
educational contexts.

Artefact
There are different learning design artefacts produced through the design process of a course:
1. Design document including learning outcomes, curriculum components, teaching plan,
activities design, task sequence…
2. Learning resources for
a. synchronized sessions (e.g. lab material, worksheet, activity…)
b. self-paced learning (e.g. learning video, an online exercise, readings)
3. Assessment (e.g., assignment, test, quiz), evaluation criteria (e.g., rubric) and support
and feedback strategies (e.g., expected learning difficulty)

Weekly oral progress report

Except for the first session, each group will present (5 minutes maximum) one aspect of their
learning design product that they have completed. In addition, you are welcome to show your
artefact, such as videos, PPT, worksheet, design document etc., if it is helpful for your oral
progress. Report will be followed by the teacher and peer feedback on the proposed designs.

Microteaching
Role:
 Teacher: 2 group members
 Observer: 2 group members
 Students: peers from other groups
Steps:
1. Introduction (5 mins): Introduce the basic information of the lesson, level of students,
prerequisites, and learning mode, which helps to put peers from other groups into the
"students" roles. Set up mobile phone's camera to record the classroom interaction for
self-evaluation purposes ONLY.
2. Teach (15 mins): Student teachers present the micro lesson to peers and demonstrated
at least one implementation of technology for learning and teaching. Observers take
notes for the groups.
3. Feedback (5 mins): Peers from other groups provide feedback based on the
performance and provide suggestions for improvement.
