Exploring Sales Data with Tableau


Analyze and visualize sales data using Tableau to gain insights and present findings effectively.

Step 1: Data Loading and Analysis


 Download the "Sales Data" dataset provided on Moodle.

Step 2: Data Visualization


Create the following visualizations using Tableau:
Total Sales by Product and Category:

 Generate a bar chart to display the total sales based on products and categories.
Sales Trend:

Analyze the total sales performance for each year in line graphs.
((Hint 1: By default, Tableau will aggregate the data (you can see SUM in front of each entry). To
change this, right-click on the field on the Columns shelf and select "Dimension" instead of
"Measure.", Hint 2: In Tableau, ensure that the columns and rows are in the continuous option)

Step 3: Interactivity
Enhance your visualizations with interactivity:

 Add filters to allow users to select specific product categories or time periods. Generate a
bar chart to display your filter.

 Add filters to analyze the quantities and price based on region for each product.

Step 4: Analysis and Findings:


Analyze the visualizations and draw conclusions:

 Identify the top-selling product categories and regions.


Answer: According to figure 1 above product C category 1 has the highest sales per given time.

 Note any significant insights or observations. Calculate central tendencies (mean, median,
mode, standard deviation) for each feature and the output variable. Analyze these measures
to gain insights into the data distribution.
Additionally, the analysis of the variables statistics was performed as follows:
Answer: The table below indicated the sum of price, quantity and total sales that had been recorded for
the given 3 years. Total sales indicated more than 2 million where by both the price and quantity had a
value of 50,183, and 55, 518. Ideally this would mean the company is make great sales.
Answer: Following is the Total averages for the three variables. Whereby according to the analysis the
average price was 56, while the average quantity was 50, and average total sales was 2,788 which can be
considered positive sales hence there is no negative values.

Answer: Similarly, the Total median calculation was calculated as shown below for the three variables.
The variables have a very close value to that of average hence most of the products are being sold at a
medium price, and the company has median quantity sales.

Answer: Finally, their standard deviation has been calculated as follows:
