    INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES

    What is input devices?


    The various devices that are used for entering information and
    instruction into a computer for processing or storage porpose are
    called input devices.
    ● The various input devices are listed below:
    1. Keyboard: Keyboard is one of the most commonly used input
    devices. It is used to enter data into the computer.
    There are several types of keyboards. The QWERTY keyboard is
    the most commonly used type of keyboard. It has the following sets
    of keys:
     Typing keys
     Control keys
     Function keys
     Navigation keys
     Numeric keyboard
    2. Mouse: A mouse is a hand-operated electronic devices that acts
    as an input devices. At the bottom of a mouse there is a balls that
    rolls on the surface of the pad. The movement of the mouse ball
    controls the movement of the pointer on the screen. The pointer
    helps us to point at or select things on the computer screen. The
    mouse has two or three buttons on the top that help the pointer to
    make selection and a scroll button to move the pointer up and
    down.

    In some graphics programs like MS paint and Adobe photoshop,


    the mouse is used to draw and paint.

    There are different types of mouses like:

     Mechanical mouse
     Optomechanical mouse
     Optical mouse
     Cordless mouse
    3. Scanner: A scanner is an input device that is used to convert a
    document with text into a digitised form that can be stored as an
    electronic image on a computer.

    A Scanner can capture images from photographics print, pages of


    magazines, posters, and other similar sources.

    There are different types of scanners listed below:


     Flathead scanner
     Sheet fed scanner
     Handheld scanner
     Photo scanner
     Film scanner
     Portable scanner
    4. Web camera: A web camera is a small digital camera that is
    used for sharing real-time images and videos on the world wide
    web. Video chats or video conferencing is the most common use of
    a webcam.
    However, web cameras are also being used as security cameras.
    A web camera can be connected to a computer through wire or
    wirelessly. Some computer come with built-in web cameras.
    What is output devices?
    A device used to deliver the processed data to other devices are
    called output devices.
    The various output devices are listed below:
    1. Monitor: A monitor is an output devices that look like a TV
    screen. It is a display unit(VDU) that displays the input data
    entered by the user and the output generated by the CPU. This
    helps the user to ensure that correct data is being entered and
    also see that the CPU is producing the correct output.
    There are two basic types of monitors:
     Cathode-ray tube (CRT)
     Flat-panel display
    ● In CRT display, beams of electrons are emitted by an electron
    gun on a phosphorus-coated surface. These beams form visible
    patterns of data.
    ● Flat-panel display use any of these media for visual
    representation of data-liquid crystal diodes, light-emitting
    diodes, plasma panels and electroluminescence.
    2. Printer: A printer is an output device required to convert the
    desired output into printed images and text.
    These are generally categorized in two main groups like:
     Impact printers
     Non- impact printer
    In an impact printer, tiny wire pines physically contract the sheets
    of papers and strike the ink ribbon.
    In an non-impact printer, text and graphics are produced without
    actually striking the sheets of papers.
