Charcoal has several characteristics:

1. It is a lightweight and porous material.

2. It is mainly composed of carbon.
3. It is often used as a fuel source for cooking and heating.
4. It has a high heat output and burns at a consistent temperature.
5. It is commonly used for art and drawing due to its ability to create deep, rich tones.
6. It can be produced from various organic materials through a process called carbonization.

Charcoal is a black, lightweight, and porous material that is mainly composed of carbon. It is
commonly used as a fuel source for cooking and heating due to its high heat output and
consistent burning temperature. It is also used in art and drawing because it can create deep, rich
tones. Charcoal is produced through a process called carbonization, which involves heating
organic materials in the absence of air.

Uses of charcoal
1. To absorb odors
Charcoal is use in getting rid of unpleasant smells in the home

2. For metallurgical fuel

Charcoal are used as fuel for extraction and processing of various metals and alloys. Charcoal is
used because it is a hotter fuel than wood and it also creat a reducing atmosphere because of it
high carbon content. It also have a higher calorific value than wood.

3. It is used as reducing agent

Charcoal ahs a high carbon content which makes it to be used as a reducing agent to remove
oxygen from metal oxides to extract the metal. Charcoal react with oxygen in the metal ore to
produce carbon dioxide and pure metal. This process is known as reduction process, which
allows the metals to be extracted

4. Syngas production
Syngas is produced by gasification, the charcoal is heated in the presence of a reasonable amount
of oxygen. It is then used as fuel for heating, cooking and generating electricity
5. For medicinal purposes
Charcoal is use to treat poison, promoting kidney health, diarrhea treatment and it is also use for
high cholesterol

6. Help to generate electricity

Charcoal is burnt in a boiler to convert water into steam, the steam goes into the turbine which
turns into shaft. The shaft is then connected to a generator that makes power as it turns
