2.1 Christina, aged 43, earns a basic monthly salary of R32 907,50.
Some of the following deductions are indicated on her January 2023 payslip.
ANNEXURE B shows the 2022/23 Income Tax tables used to determine the taxpayer's
tax payable.
Use ANNEXURE B and the information above to answer the questions that follow.
(a) Identify which tax bracket Christina falls in, based on her taxable
income. (2)
(b) Calculate the amount of tax Christina must pay for the 2022/23
tax year. (5)
TABLE 3 below shows the currency conversion factors for a few of the currencies
in terms of the South African currency on 30 March 2023.
2.2.1 Identify the currency that is second strongest to the rand. (2)
2.2.2 Show how the British pound (₤) of 0,044832 ZAR per unit was determined. (2)
2.2.3 Determine how much money Christina received, in Rand, from her sister. (3)

Christina owns a 4 room apartment in Durban with a bathroom and toilet.
The apartment uses 1 lightbulb per room, 1 lightbulb for the bathroom and 1 lightbulb for
the toilet.
The current tariff is 188,63 Cents Per Kwh, VAT inclusive.
Use TABLE 4 and the information above to answer the questions that follow.
2.3.2 Calculate the total monthly cost for lighting in Christina's apartment. (3)
2.3.3 The total cost for Christina for all the appliances, excluding the
6 lightbulbs, stove and 3 laptop chargers is R1 115,35.
Christina claims that the total monthly cost including 6 lightbulbs, stove
and 3 laptops will be more than R1 952,00.
2.3.4 Christina states that if she uses the geyser for 2 hours a day for 30 days
and the back large plate and the front small plate of the stove once, the
electricity bill will decrease by exactly R450,00.
