question paper
QUESTION 1
The data obtained from the experiment is displayed in the table below:
READING ON READING ON
AMMETER (A) VOLTMETER (V)
1 0 7
2 0,7 6,76
3 1,3 6,52
4 1,8 6,28
5 2,4 6,04
1.1 State ONE factor that must be kept constant during the experiment (1)
1.2 Write down ONE precaution taken during the experiment. (2)
1.3 Identify the :
1.3.1 Independent variable (1)
1.3.2 Dependent variable (1)
1.4 Assume that the resistance R in the circuit above was replaced with
another resistor of a lower resistance.
1.4.1 How will this change affects the voltmeter reading?
Choose from INCREASE, DECREASE or REMAINS THE
SAME. (1)
1.4.2 Explain your answer in 1.4.1 by referring to Vlost (3)
1.5 Using the information in the table above, draw a graph of voltmeter
reading versus ammeter reading on the attached GRAPH PAPER. (5)
1.6 Use the graph drawn in question 1.5 to :
1.6.1 calculate the gradient of the graph. (4)
1.6.2 determine the internal resistance of the battery. (2)
1.7
Which point on your graph represents the EMF of the battery?
(4)
Explain your answer.
1.8 Draw a conclusion from the results obtained. (2)

QUESTION 2: APPLICATION
In the circuit diagram below, resistor R, with a resistance of 4, 3 Ω, is connected,
together with a switch, an ammeter and a high-resistance voltmeter, to a battery
with an unknown internal resistance, r. The resistance of the connecting wires and
the ammeter may be ignored.
The graph below shows the potential difference across the terminals of the battery
as a function of time.
At time t1, switch S is closed.
