She wishes to express her heartfelt appreciation to the teachers

and personnel of San Mateo North Central School and San Mateo

North District. She extends special thanks to Dr. Haydee Balingue,

SCHOOL PROFILE

A. SCHOOL

Name and History

San Mateo North Central School was first named Salinungan

Elementary School taken from the name of the barangay where it is

situated. The first setters allotted reserved 4.9 hectares lot for barrio

school in 1924.

The civilization in Salinungan grew in number, so the vast was

divided into five barangays. The five barrios were Salinungan West,

Salinungan East, Malasin, Victoria, and Gaddanan. It was then the

school was renamed as Salinungan West Elementary School. The

2
younger barrios opened primary schools where learners went back to

Salinungan West to complete their fifth and sixth grade.

In 1983, when the lone district of the Municipality of San Mateo

was divided into two, Salinungan West ES became the seat of the

younger district, San Mateo North District. Eleven years later, the

school was named San Mateo Central School through the first

principal and then District Principal In-charge Mr. Renato L. Gozum.

Since then, the district office has been situated in the school

compound and oftentimes district activities are held in the school.

From the humble beginnings of the school, the dreams of the

pioneers have been continued by the school administrations,

stakeholders, community leaders and teachers who served the school.

The school has received recognitions for its performance and

accomplishments. School leadership and service were manifested by

the following school heads, Mr. Estanislao Bueno, Mr. Benedicto

Santos, 1959; Mr. Pedro Antolin, 1963; Mr. Francisco Tabios, 1970;

Mr. Leonides Dacuycuy, 1975; Mr. Jose Cabrera, 1976; Mr. Natividad

Munar, 1979; Mr. Pedro Baris, 1982; Miss Aurora Elizaga, 1984; Mr.

Renato L. Gozum, 1986; Mrs. Socorro Satiago, 1988; Dr. Miriam

Barangan, 1996; Dr. Cristina Acosta, 2003; Dr. Miriam Barangan,

2004; Miss Espifania Barroga, 2006, and Dr. Jacqueline Ramos 2011

to present.

The progress of San Mateo North Central School in terms of

physical development, school performance, and learning outcomes

3
was envisioned even in the past and is still the very aim of the present

administration, improvement and change will always be the

permanent and dominant vision at all times.

Type of School

San Mateo North Central School is the center of excellence in

San Mateo North District. It is a central school that caters complete

elementary and kindergarten with three sections per grade level

handled by regular teachers. There are 4 sessions for kindergarten

handled by two volunteer teachers paid by the DepEd.

Pupils/Students Profile

The school has a total population of 752. The latest (2011-2012)

annual enrollment of the school for complete elementary is 664

broken down as 316 males and 348 females. In kindergarten classes,

there are 117 with 65 males and 52 females. There are 18 classes

from Grades I to VI and four classes in kindergarten. About 98% of

the school population comes from the barangay where the school is

situated, and 2% comes from other barangays.

Curriculum

SMNCS utilizes the 2002 Basic Education Curriculum for public

schools of the Department of Education. Kindergarten classes utilize

the programmed readiness instruction prescribed by the DepEd.

In SY 2011-2012, Grade 1 to Grade III teachers implemented

the MTB-MLE instruction with a focus on PIBALOY (Ilocano) as the

4
vernacular in the community which is a tool for understanding the

second language, Filipino, and third language, English. CS ALS is also

an active program in the district where the ALS center seats in the

school. The barangay also has beneficiaries of the ALS both in A&E

and livelihood programs. The school also caters special children

inclusive in regular classes. However, with the presence of differently-

abled children in the school, a SPED class was organized in SY 2012-

2013.

Personnel

The school is headed by Principal II, with 24 teaching staff

composed of 4 master teachers and 20 teachers I to III. There are two

volunteer kindergarten teachers and a PTCA-paid security guard. The

school also has 1 support staff with an item of administrative aid. The

detailed district ALS coordinator, mobile teacher, Library Hub

Librarian, and Assistant librarian have their office in the central

school.

Physical Facilities

There are buildings constructed in the school compound of

SMNCS where each building has different number of classrooms,

functions and conditions. There are 25 classrooms according to

purpose, 22 rooms are utilized for instruction while 3 are used as the

principal's office, learning resource center, and pupil's organizations

office. The school also has a multi-purpose hall, library hub, and

5
canteen. The school properties are safeguarded by a concrete fence. It

has resources such as rice fields, fishponds, vegetable gardens, and

fruit trees.

Special Features

The school is also active in supporting scouting movements,

sports activities, culture and arts, and competitions and activities. The

best practices of the school are supported by teachers, pupils,

parents, and stakeholders. Today, the school strives to sustain all its

best practices and to gain more laurels.

6
B. COMMUNITY

Social-cultural

The first settlers of Salinungan were inhabitants from Tarlac

and Nueva Ecija. They named the place “Salinungan” derived from the

word “Salinung” which means “shade” – a big tree that served as a

shed the settlers to rest and plan for the place.

The cultural heritage of Ilocanos was preserved in fiestas and

wedding ceremonies. Ilocano dancers and songs like Pandango,

Lanceros, Kalapati, and La Jota were enriched. Traditional sports like

wrestling, sanggol, gabbo, and arnis de mano were played.

With the fast growth of population, the barangay has embraced

different cultures and dialects like Ibanag, Tagalog, Kapampangan,

and Pangasinense.

The first church and religion in the barangay was United

Methodist Church while in town was Iglesia Filipina Independiente.

Today, different religious groups are established like Roman Catholic,

Iglesia ni Cristo, Seventh Day Adventist, Jehova’s Witness, and

Pentecost.

There are two schools established in this barangay, Salinungan

Elementary School, now San Mateo North Central School, and

Salinungan Barangay High School, now Salinungan National High

School. The school lot was reserved by the early settlers intended for

barrio schools. These two schools are adjacent to each other, where

7
0.5 hectare of the elementary school lot was apportioned to the annex

compound of the high school.

Political

Salinungan West Barangay Councils are healed by a barangay

Captain with seven councilors assigned to different committees and

areas or purok. Each member was elected in a barangay election held

by the Comelec. A chairman for the Sangguniang Kabataan was also

elected while a secretary and the treasurer were appointed by the

barangay captain. At present, the following barangay officials compose

the council and lead the community.

Barangay Captain: Genaro B. Reyno

Councilors:

1. Eddie Amin y. Fermin

2. Dominador Cuaresma

3. Corazon V. Martinez

4. Santos M. Pascual

5. Virgilio M. Galvez

6. Ronald M. Rapio

7. Abraham V. Barangan Sr.

SK Chairman: Paul Angelo P. Castroverde

Secretary: Clariza Grace D. Namocal

Treasurer: Omar F. Orcino

8
Geographical Location (boundaries)

Salinungan West is the biggest barangay in San Mateo, Isabela

in terms of area and population. It has a total area of 1, 104.050

hectares. It is bounded on the north by the barangay Villa Gamiao

and Malasin, east by Salinungan East, south by Victoria, and west by

Malasin. These boundaries were originally part of the big Salinungan.

Demography and Economy

The population of Salinungan West in 2011 was 5,547. There

were 1,450 households. Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood

and income in the barangay, as the best for crops like rice, corn,

monggo, and vegetables. The NIA supplies water in the vast rice field.

Most of the populace is engaged in farming and occasional

labor. Some run home-based businesses, few work in fields related to

their degrees, and some families have members working as OFWs.

SCHOOL'S CURRENT SITUATION

San Mateo North Central School envisions improving and

upgrading learning outcomes through its catalysts, the system,

management, programs, stakeholders, school leaders, teachers, and

most of all, the learners.

This School Year 2019-2020, the school is serving 324 males

and 208 females a total of 532 pupils as our annual enrolment with

twenty-four (24) capable and eligible teachers with 1:31 Teacher: Pupil

Ratio. The school's population /enrolment decreases because of the

accredited openings of private schools within the barangay and the

9
number of children being born in a family decrease as an offshoot of

Pop Com Campaign via Family Planning and Responsible Parenthood.

We have fifty-three (53) SBFP beneficiaries who were identified as

Severely Wasted and Wasted Pupils in the Nutritional Status (NS) and

we are also catering fifteen (15) under the status of Pupils at Risk of

Dropping out (PARDOS). Funds are taken from the percentages of the

school canteen fund under the feeding program. The reading abilities

of learners are quite alarming because of the Pre-Phil-IRI result that

most of the learners belong to frustrated readers with poor

comprehension (See attached Annex-). Discipline of learners is

becoming annoying. Simple bullying and other issues and problems

are being aggravated. Absenteeism is also normal problem in the

school children most especially to those pupils with far residences.

The recent MPS in all learning areas tested in the NAT-6 is

73.83% and it is quite remarkable for it increases yearly and with a

dream to meet the division benchmark target of 75%.

The school opened this school year with a Special Program in

Journalism (SPJ) with a total enrollment of 38 pupils, 28 Male and 10

Female. SPJ is another avenue to knowledge for school children with

in-born skills in Journalistic Writing (Feature Writing, News Writing,

Editorial Writing, and the like). SPJ is managed by a skilled and

talented teacher duly monitored by the school principal and the

district journalism coordinator. The school excelled in Journalism

10
both individual and group contest and it reached not only RSPC but

even to National Schools Press Conference (NSPC).

In school physical facilities, the school multi-purpose hall is

heavily dilapidated due to the strike of Typhoon Ompong and Typhoon

Rosita, half of the roofing was toppled down, and the stage is not

functional because the GI sheets and ceiling were totally blown its

service and function is uncertain because it is very risky, its repair is

also challenging because of limited source. School funds and MOOE

funds have its own eligible expenses monthly. Hence, plan to endorse

a resolution to our local officials/politicians.

In Classroom Building: One (1) classroom in our school was also

heavily damaged by Typhoon Ompong and Typhoon Rosita

(Galvanized Iron (GI) Sheets were rolled out) but with an existing

certificate from SDO-Isabela for its repair, we are hoping the soonest

implementation for our learners used conveniently. The old Home

Economics building ceiling and windows need major repair. We

appropriated some amounts in our MOOE this school year through

the Program of Work for its immediate repair/construction.

Ten (10) classrooms need ceiling repair/replacement. Ceilings are

heavily infested with white ants/Anay. Replacement is in dire need to

lesser expenses instead of constructing new classrooms/buildings

which cost a large sum of money.

The OK sa DEPED components were already introduced to

learners and teachers for its full implementation. School-Based

11
Feeding Program (SBFP), School Canteen Management, Preventive

Drug Education Program (PDEP), Adolescent Reproductive Health

(ARH), and Project WinS (Wash in Schools) or Project WASH (Water

Sanitation and Hygiene). To emphasize on the importance of Project

WinS, the school paid for the construction of a bigger WASH Area for

all learner's use.

With regards to classroom facilities for teaching-learning

activities, the teachers cope to avail high-tech facilities like LED

television with educational CDs, laptops, printers, projectors for

PowerPoint Presentation, etc. for better if not best teaching-learning

outcomes.

The school is also supporting the sports fest specialized in

baseball, softball, football, and chess but our available sports

gadgets/facilities are almost tattered/raptured and destroyed. The

school is also after the learners' security and safety hence functional

11 CS school clinic is one of its dreams. School Functional

Library/LRC with appropriate books in all grade levels and other

learning resources are available for enhancement in teaching is also

one of the school aspirations.

Discipline of pupils is somewhat discouraging, that is why the

administration is advocating positive discipline for the transformation

of attitudes of school children.

The school triumphantly won over Civil Case No. 20-3109 with a

total school lot area of 40,087 Square meters last March 16, 2017.

12
The school lot is now lawfully owned by San Mateo, Isabela where San

Mateo North Central School (SMNCS) is located.

San Mateo North Central School is popular for its Eco-Friendly

and Child-Friendly as manifested in the school survey using the

prescribed Dep-Ed checklist. It is also implied that there is a

harmonious relationship among the internal and external

stakeholders and is evidently displayed in the participation and

involvement of everyone through tangible school accomplishments.

Undeniably, the school's achievements are the result of incomparable

cooperation and concerted efforts of everyone.

ORGANIZATIONAL CHART

The school is headed by a principal 11 with 24 teaching staff

composed of 4 master teachers and 20 teachers I to III. There are two

volunteer kindergarten teachers and a PTCA-paid security guard. The

school also has 1 support staff with an item of administrative aid. The

detailed district ALS coordinator, mobile teacher, Library Hub

Librarian, and Assistant Librarian have their office in the central

school.

CHAPTER III

ASSESSMENT OF THE PRACTICUM PROGRAM

53
A. What Have I Learned from the Experience

I've learned from experience that you need to be kind to

everyone you meet and take responsibility for everything. When

you eventually enter the actual world of work, you will realize your

place in it. You also need to work hard, have guts, and be honest

and accountable in everything.

B. My Experience with the People Around Me

The teachers in my life have taught me many valuable

lessons, knowledge, planning, event creation, and much more. We

will never forget their advice, especially when it comes to work, to

choose the good work that is better for the future. It requires many

things, such as appreciation, consistent work, and future event

planning.

C. My Most Memorable Event During My Practicum

My favorite practicum experience is the free food breaks with

the office personnels, which are always enjoyable and full of

conversation as I eat and observe. I will always remember this

because it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy free snacks.

D. What Can I Recommend for the Improvement of the Practicum

Program?

54
I recommend managing your schedule effectively to complete

reports before their due time. When working, it is important to be

aware of your surroundings and understand that our

responsibilities, resources, and specialized sectors test us.

To improve the overall experience, we should focus on

gaining more practical experience, providing opportunities for

mentorship, setting clear goals, and encouraging regular feedback

from both students and supervisors. Additionally, integrating real-

world projects with industry professionals will offer practical

insights and valuable networking opportunities.

E. My Advice to Those Who Will Take Their Practicum in the Near

Future

My advice to students who will be taking their practicum in

the future is to approach every assignment you are given with

seriousness, confidence, and a willingness to ask questions when

necessary. You should also view challenging tasks as opportunities

to learn and have fun and be more humble in your interactions

with others. and you should simply enjoy your work and try not to

worry too much because that's what life is all about.
