Chapter 1 For Safe Use of the Product


For the safe use of the product, be sure to read the instructions below.

1.1 For Users of This Manual


This manual is solely designed for technicians to perform detailed settings, maintenance and troubleshooting for
this product.
The use of this manual is restricted to operators and service personal who are in charge of system management.

1.2 Warning Symbols


This manual uses the following symbols to increase awareness of possible dangers or harmful situations to the
user, and to guide in the safe operation of the product. Be sure that you fully understand the contents of this
manual and follow the instructions herein.

Chapter 2 Overview of Device Config


Device Config controls and adjusts the parameters of devices (monitors and analyzers manufactured by
Shinkawa Sensor Technology, Inc.)
The VM-772B Device Config is supplied as a separate software package from the VM-773B infiSYS Analysis
View. However, this software can be installed on infiSYS View Station.

2.1 Functions
This section provides a description of basic functions provided by Device Config.

2.1.1 Device Setting Edit Function

The Device Config is capable of loading, editing and writing the parameters of the following devices:
 VM-7B monitor
 VM-7 monitor
 DAQpod DP-2000 infiSYS Data Acquisition Unit
 DAQpod AP-2000 infiSYS Data Acquisition Unit
By connecting the Device Config with the above devices as well as with equipment such as the DC voltage
generator and function generator, you can adjust the gap values, measurement values and recorder output of the
devices.

2.1.2 Device Setting Create Function

By switching modes of the Device Config, you can edit device parameters and create setup files without
establishing connection with the devices (in offline mode).
(However, this does not include calibration parameters.)

2.1.3 Measurement Value Display Function

This function displays the gap values, measurement values, power status and communication status of each
device.

3.1 System Requirements


The hardware on which to install Device Config must satisfy the following specifications:

PC/AT compatible personal computer


Processor Intel Pentium-compatible processor (1 GHz or higher) recommended
Memory 1 GB or larger recommended
Display Resolution 1024 x 768 recommended
HDD HDD with 1 GB or larger free space recommended

3.2 Installing the Software


<Pre-Installation Preparations>
Take the following preparation steps prior to installing the devices:
 Finish all applications that are running.
 Terminate a virus checker, if any.
 Disconnect from the internet.
 If a screensaver is set, change its setting so that it is not activated while installing the software.
 If a power management feature is enabled for display or hard disk, change its setting so that the power does
not shut off while installing the software.

3.2.1 Installing the Virtual COM Port Drivers

For USB connections, driver software must be installed.


Install the driver software before setting the port.

1 Please download the latest Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers from the following URL:
http://www.ftdichip.com/

Expand the downloaded compressed file in an arbitrary folder.


2 Connect the PC and the device with a USB cable.
The [Found New Hardware Wizard] window appears on the PC.

Point The port to which the USB cable is connected will serve as the port for connecting with the device.

3 Select [No, not this time] and click the [Next] button.
A window for selecting the installation method appears.

4 Select [Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)] and


click the [Next] button.
A window for specifying where to search for the driver is
displayed.

5 Select [Search for the best driver in these locations], then select 5
the [Include this location in the search:] checkbox.
6 Click the [Browse] button, then select [CDM 2.00.00] from the 6
folder created in Step 1.
Click the [Next] button.
(Note that the version number of the downloaded folder may be
different from the one shown above.) 5 6

7 Installation starts. When it is complete, [Completing the Found


New Hardware Wizard] is displayed.
Click the [Finish] button.

8 Select [No, not this time] and click the [Next] button.

9 Select [Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)] and


click the [Next] button.

10 Select [Search for the best driver in these locations], then select 10
the [Include this location in the search:] checkbox.
11 Click [Browse], then select [CDM 2.00.00] from the folder
created in Step 1.
Click the [Next] button.

12 Installation starts. When it is complete, [Completing the Found


New Hardware Wizard] is displayed.
Click the [Finish] button.

3.2.2 Installing Device Config

1 Insert the Device Config installation disk into the optical drive on the PC. The installer starts up
automatically, displaying the installation window.
2 Follow the steps that appear on screen.
3 Device Config is now installed.
A short cut for Device Config is created, which can be accessed by selecting [All Programs], then
[infiSYS RV-200] from the [Start] menu.

3.3 Specifying the Network Settings


Two types of connection methods are available for Device Config. One is Ethernet connection, and the other is
USB connection.
Connection methods for each device are as follows:
 VM-7B monitor :Ethernet connection and USB connection
 VM-7 monitor :Ethernet connection and USB connection
 DAQpod DP-2000: Ethernet connection only
 DAQpod AP-2000: Ethernet connection only
According to the connection method of the connection target device, perform settings following the procedures
below.

3.3.1 Specifying the Ethernet Connection Settings

1 Start the PC and connect it to the device with an


Ethernet cable.
To connect them directly without using a hub, use a

cross-over Ethernet cable.

2 Start Device Config.
In the menu, select [Tool], then [Connection].
The Communication Information window appears.

3 Select [Ethernet] as the connection method, then set

[IP Address] and [Port Number].
Click the [OK] button to close the Communication

4 In the [Communication] menu, click [Connect].


A dialog box that asks user to start reading parameters is
displayed. 4
5 Click [Yes].
Connection via LAN cable is now complete. 6
6 To remove the LAN cable, in the [Communication]
menu, click [Disconnect].
Click [OK]. The Ethernet connection will be terminated.
7 Pull out the LAN cable.

Point Setting the PC

To connect the PC via Ethernet, you need to set the IP address for the PC. Set the IP address manually in the
TCP/IP properties for the port to be used.
IP Address 192.168.8.254
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
(Make sure to set an IP address that is different from the one set in Step 3.)

 If you are connecting more than one device to the same network, make sure to set a unique IP
address for each one of them.

 Please do not turn off the power or pull out the communication cable while communication is
ongoing between the device and Device Config.
Otherwise, it may prevent the changes made in Device Config from being reflected in the device.

3.3.2 Specifying the USB Connection Settings

You can identify the USB port of the PC you are using by checking the Device Manager window.

1 Start the PC and connect it to the device with an USB cable.


2 Right-click [My Computer] on the PC. Click [Property].
The System Properties window appears.
3 Click the [Hardware] tab, then [Device Manager].
The Device Manager window appears.
4 Click the plus mark (+) beside the port.
The USB port number is displayed.
Example) In the window to the right, [USB Serial Port
(COM5)] is displayed. In this case the port number is "5".

5 Start Device Config.


In the menu, select [Tool], then [Connection].
The Communication Information window appears.

6 Select [USB] as the connection method, then, for [COM Port

Number], set the port number identified in Step 4.
Click the [OK] button to close the Communication
Information window.

7 In the [Communication] menu, click [Connect].


A dialog box that asks user to start reading parameters is

Connection via USB cable is now complete.

Click [OK]. The USB connection will be terminated.
10 Pull out the USB cable.

 Please do not pull out the USB cable while communication is ongoing between the device and
Device Config.
Otherwise, it may prevent the changes made in Device Config from being reflected in the device.

3.4 Uninstalling Device Config


To uninstall Device Config, select [Settings] from the [Start] menu and bring up [Control Panel]. Then, select
[Add or Remove Programs] to remove Device Config.

1 From the [Start] menu, click [Settings] and select [Control Panel].
2 In [Control Panel], click [Add or Remove Programs].
The Add or Remove Programs window appears.
3 Select [Shinkawa VM-772B Device Config] and click [Change/Remove].
Device Config is now uninstalled.

This window is used to edit the module configuration. (Available only during offline config mode)

This chapter describes the basic operations involved in using Device Config, including how to specify the
device settings or how to check the measurement values.

5.1 Changing the Device Settings


Follow the procedures described below to connect Device Config to VM-7 monitors or DAQpod DP-2000

5.1.1 Starting Device Config

Start Device Config as follows:

1 Device Config can be started by the following operations:


- From the Windows [Start] menu, select [All Programs], [infiSYS RV-200], then [Device Config].
A password entry window appears.
2 Enter the password and click [OK]. (The default password is "0824".)
A user name entry window appears.
3 Enter the user name and click [OK].
A confirmation dialog box appears.
4 Click [OK] to start Device Config.

5.1.2 Selecting the Device Type

To switch the device displayed on the window, follow the procedures below to select the device for editing the
parameter.

1 From [Device] on the Device Config menu, select the


target device for editing.

The window switches to the device editing window of the
selected device.

5.1.3 Retrieving Parameters from the Device

Initiate communication between the device and the PC, and then retrieve parameters with Device Config.
 If communication starts and parameters are retrieved simultaneously

(To switch the connection method, perform setting on the window displayed by selecting [Tool], then
[Connection] from the Device Config menu.)

5.1.4 Editing the Device Parameters

Change the parameters retrieved from the device to values appropriate to the purpose of use.
For details about how to set each parameter, see the manual on each device.

Point Display colors and background colors of the setting value on Device Config.

The font colors and background colors indicate the current state of the setting items in Device Config. Examples
are shown below.

 Normal font: The value has not been changed.

 Black bold font: The value has been changed but not yet specified. This value has not been set to the monitor
or saved in a file.

 Red bold font: This value can be set. However, some sort of constraint/limit exists or the value is not
recommendable. (Warning value)

 Yellow background & red bold font: The value does not operate the monitor normally. This value cannot be
set or saved. (Error value)

 Yellow background: The value cannot be selected.

5.1.5 Enabling the Device Setup Menu

To write settings to the device, you need to enable the menu that executes device setup.

1 From the Device Config menu, select [Mode], then [Enable


Device Setup].
A password entry window appears.
2 Enter the password and click [OK]. (The default password is
"0824".) The setup menu will be enabled. 1

 Once the communication between Device Config and the device is terminated, the setup menu
becomes disabled. To write settings to a device, repeat the procedure described above.

5.1.6 Writing Parameters to the Device

To reflect the parameters edited in Device Config in the device, write the parameters to the device using Device
Config.

1 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication],


then [Set Configuration].
A confirmation dialog box appears.
2 Click [OK].
All the parameters in Device Config are now written to

the device.

Point Write Mode

Two modes are available for writing the setting from Device Config to the device.
- With [Set Configuration], the setting is written to all modules (boards) of the device. It may take some time to
transfer the setting to all modules (boards).
- With [Set Slot Configuration], the setting is written to the modules (boards) in the selected slots.

If an error is displayed while writing parameters, execute one of the following procedures as appropriate to the
nature of the error.
 If a dialog box indicating an error in parameters is displayed:

1 Close the dialog box and correct the parameters on Device


Config.
2 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication],
then [Set Configuration].
3 All the parameters in Device Config are now written to the 2
device.

 If a dialog box indicating an error in the switch position is displayed (available only for VM-7B
monitor):

1 Close the dialog box, then from the Device Config menu,
select [Communication], then [Disconnect] to terminate

communication with the device.
2 Uninstall the module whose switch position is incorrect, and 1
set the switch to the correct position.
3 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication],
then [Connect].
A dialog box that asks user to start reading parameters is
displayed.

4 Click [No].
Communication between Device Config and the device is
now initiated.
(If click [Yes], parameters of the device are retrieved and
edited parameters are updated.)
5 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication], 5
then [Set Configuration].
6 All the parameters in Device Config are now written to the
device.

 When the channel configuration or setting is changed, alarm contacts may be output.

 When you write the setting, the measurement values in MCL View and/or host network may
disappear.

 When you write the setting, the measurement values may fluctuate.

5.1.7 Finishing Device Config

When all parameters are written to the device, finish Device Config.

5.2 Checking the Device Operations


Follow the steps described below to connect Device Config to VM-7 monitors or DAQpod DP-2000 infiSYS
Data Acquisition Unit to check the measurement values.

5.2.1 Checking the Measurement Values

To check the device measurement values, start Device Config and then execute the following steps:

1 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication], 2


then [Get Configuration].
2 From the Device Config toolbar, select [Measure] and
open the measurement value display area. 1

By selecting one of the module (board) nodes on Device Tree, you can bring up the information specific to the
selected module in the measurement value display area.

5.2.2 Checking the Channel Operations (Available only for VM-7B Monitor and VM-7
Monitor)

VM-7B monitor and VM-7 monitor come with the demo mode function, with which you can enter the
measurement value signal on Device Config to check the channel operations.
Demo mode is a function used to overwrite the measurement values to check the operation of the output
functions (communication, contact output, recorder output, etc.). Thus, it cannot be used for the purpose of
checking or calibrating the operations ranging from input to output. To check the operations ranging from input
to output, enter a simulated signal. The VM-7B monitor demo mode is enabled only while the monitor is
connected with Device Config.
Once the communication with the device is terminated, the demo mode is cancelled and the normal
measurement operation resumes.

5.3 Other Operations


5.3.1 Saving Device Parameters to a File

You can save the parameters edited in Device Config to a file and back up the device settings.

the parameters and then click [Save].

5.3.2 Retrieving Device Parameters from a File

5.3.3 Changing the Channel Type

The channel type of a module that has more than one measurement function, like VM-701B
Vibration/Displacement Monitor Module, can be changed on Device Config.

5.3.4 Copying the Module (Board) Settings

You can copy the module settings to another module.


This is possible only between the modules of the same type.

You can copy the channel settings to another channel.


This can be done not only between the channels of the same module but also between the channels of different
modules.

You can change the Modbus communication parameters by sending and receiving the setting file for Modbus
communication function.

 Writing the Setting File for Modbus Communication Function

1 From the Device Tree, select [Communication ()], then

5.3.10 Changing the Device Config Password

You can change the password used to start up Device Config or to enable the device setup menu.
 The default password is "0824".
 You cannot disable this password.
 The character that can be used as a password is an alphanumeric character and a null character.
 The character string from 4 to 15 characters can be used.

5.3.11 Restoring the Channel Settings and Adjustment Values

You can restore the device settings or the items changed while adjustments by using the file in which the device
parameters are backed up.

1 From the Device Config menu, select [Communication], then

Chapter 6 Offline Config Mode


You can create a new setting file or edit it without connecting with the device (offline). However, certain
calibration parameters cannot be set in this mode.

6.1.1 Switching to Offline Config Mode

To switch to offline config mode, execute the following steps.


1 From the Device Config menu, select [Mode], then
[Offline Config Mode].
2 Select [Mode], then [Offline Config Mode]. A tick is

displayed beside [Offline Config Mode], which means that
the offline config mode has been activated.

Warranty Provision

Warranty for the product is as follows:

1. Warranty Conditions for Newly Delivered Products

The warranty period for the delivered product shall be 3 years (except for special products and software, and of
which shall be 1 year) from the date of delivery from our factory.
In the event that the delivered product develops any defects within the warranty period for which our company
is liable, the defective product will be replaced or repaired in our factory at our own expense.
In the event that an engineer needs to be dispatched for repair purposes during the warranty period, travel
expenses for the said engineer will be charged in accordance with the company's regulations. The cost of repair
will be borne by our company.
However, the following are excluded from our warranty:

(1) Any defects due to improper handling or operation by the user.


(2) Any defects, the cause of which is not attributable to our company.
(3) Any modifications or repairs made by others than the company or persons commissioned by our
company.
(4) Any handling, storage and operation under severe environmental conditions that exceed the design
specifications.
(5) Any defects due to fire, flood, earthquake, lightning and other Acts of God.
(6) Any consumables
(7) Any other defects for which we may not be held liable

Other defects are considered not to be attributable to our company. This warranty applies exclusively to the
delivered product unit, and our company will not be liable for consequential damage caused either directly or
indirectly through a defect of the delivered product.
The warranty period and scope of equipment made by manufacturers other than our company shall be in
accordance with the conditions of respective manufacturer, regardless of the provisions made above.

2. Warranty Conditions for Repaired Products

The warranty for repaired products shall be 6 months from the date of the service on the concerned part.
All the other conditions are as stated in "1. Warranty Conditions for Newly Delivered Products ".
