REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

IMPACT OF TEACHER-STUDENT FAVORITISM ON STUDENTS’LEARNING
OUTCOMES AT UNIVERSITY LEVEL (Khizer Ahmed Zaki, Shahid Rafiq, Ayesha
Afzal) Journal of Social Research Development 4 (1), 01-14, 2023This study aimed to
explore teacher favoritism's impact on students' learning outcomes at university level.
Favoritism is a common trend in classrooms as teachers give special treatment to a
few students despite not providing their best work, instead because of other reasons,
like the personal preferences and liking/disliking. This research focuses on how
students think about teacher-student favoritism and how it impacts students' learning
outcomes. To answer these questions positivism paradigm was adhered to. The
research followed a quantitative approach, and the survey method was considered best
suited for this study. Population of this study consisted of all public sector universities
of Lahore. The sample was collected from five general category public sector
universities of Lahore. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to conclude.
Therefore, it was found that favoritism significantly impacts student learning
outcomes at the university level. It causes insecurity, dissatisfaction, conflicts, and
revengeful emotions among students, that directly affect their learning of students.
Favoritism also causes less self-confidence in students. Favoritism impacts classroom
environment, which is directly related to lousy learning outcomes.

Does teacher-student relationship mediate the relation between student misbehavior

and teacher psychological well-being?
(Mohamad Arief Rafsanjani, Heni Purwa Pamungkas, Etika Dhewi Rahmawati
Journal of Accounting and Business Education 4 (1), 34-44, 2019)
One dominant determinant of teacher psychological well-being is the problem of
student discipline. This study seeks to describe how the process of student discipline
(seen of student misbehavior) may affect teacher psychological well-being (seen of
enthusiasm and emotional exhaustion) by including a mediator variable, namely
teacher-student relation. This study was conducted on 159 economics teachers of
senior high schools in Malang (Malang City and Malang Regency) using a total
population sampling. We used structural equation modeling (SEM) for data analysis,
followed by a sobel test the mediating role of variable in teacher-student relationship.
The results showed that student misbehavior had a negative effect on work enthusiasm
but a positive effect on students' emotional exhaustion. This study also found that
teacher-student relation mediates the relationship between student misbehavior and
teacher psychological well-being. The results of this study explain the process of
student misbehavior in establishing teacher-student relations which ultimately
influences teacher work enthusiasm and emotional well-being.

A Comparative Study of Discrimination in Education: The Learning Environment and

Behaviors of Students and Teachers in Iran
(Ghaffarzadeh, Mozhgan
IAFOR Journal of Education, v4 n2 p34-46 Sum 2016)
It is the learners' right to get an education free from discrimination. Discrimination in
education ranges from gender to race, age, social class, financial status, and other
characteristics. In this study the focus is on discrimination in education in regard to
social class and financial status. The paper describes observations of the school
building layout and corresponding activities and behaviors in language education
classes. The researcher observed 10 English language classes from different districts
during 10 years from 2004 through 2014 and took notes on the activities and behaviors
provided in the classroom to identify whether there was any correspondence with
educational behaviors. The investigation in this study concluded that the language
classes of most of the public (state) schools and some semi-private schools included a
curriculum based on translation and memorization teaching methods. In these schools,
learners exhibited stress and inattention that disturbed their learning. In these classes
learners were threatened by laughing or rough criticizing by the teachers. The
observation results were analyzed to make comparisons between schools and inform
the level of equality in different schools.
