The Elephant and the Mouse Story

Once upon a time under a tree in a forest, there lived a group of mice peacefully. They
lived there happily with their king of mice. A group of big elephants arrived near the tree.
They destroyed the homes of all the mice and many of them were crushed under the big
food of elephants and led to death.
Then the king of the group of mice decided to approach the chief of the group of
elephants and request him to guide his herd through another route.
The elephant king understood his problem and agreed to take another path to the water.
This is how elephants saved the lives of mice. One day, the group of elephants was
trapped in a big net by some elephant hunters. They tried a lot but could not get rid of the
net. Suddenly, the elephant king remembered the king of the rats and how he helped him.
He called one elephant of his herd who managed to escape from the trap of hunters and
ordered to go and contact the king of rats.

When the king of mice got to know about the situation of elephants, he went with his
entire group of mice and started cutting the nets with their teeth. As a result of this help,
the elephant herd managed to skip from the trap of hunters and was totally set free.
The moral of “The Elephant and the Mouse Story” is that a friend in need is a friend
indeed which means a friend can be identified in a condition where you can rely on
him/her. This is the most important characteristic of a true friend which is tested in
difficult situations.

A Story on Mother: David’s Mother
David was a school-going kid whose mother had just one eye. He disliked his mother for
having just a single eye. He always felt embarrassed of her and did not insist on her
visiting his school to pick him up. David’s mother ran a small plant shop at a flea market.
She worked hard and sold whatever she could to earn enough money to make ends meet.
David hated their living conditions and wished to be rich when he grew up.

One day, David’s school organized a Parent’s Day event and all children were asked to
invite their parents to school. David did not want to be a laughingstock in front of his
friends and hence decided not to invite his mother. However, David’s mother found out
about it when she read David’s school diary while packing his lunch. She thought that
David had forgotten to tell her and decided to surprise him with his favourite snack.

When David’s mother arrived at school and called out to him, he was furious to see her.
David’s friends laughed at him and said, “Is that one-eyed monster your mother? She
looks funny.”. David ran away in tears. When they reached home, David yelled at his
mother, “Why did you come to school? You’re such an embarrassment! I never wanted
you to come to school and that’s why I didn’t invite you. Look how everyone laughed at
me. You are the worst mother ever.”.

David’s mother said nothing. She went to the kitchen to start preparations for dinner and
sobbed quietly. David had come to the kitchen for a glass of water and saw her mother
sobbing but did not console her. Although he felt a little bad for misbehaving with her, he
was determined to study hard and leave her behind for a better future.

Years passed and David indeed grew up to be a good student and a rich man who earned
handsomely. He left the city and his mother behind and built a big house in a different
city. He now had a family of his own whom he loved immensely. He broke all ties with
his mother and never contacted her. Even his wife and children didn’t know about his
mother. Once when his mother had come to visit him, David pretended to not know her
and drove her away treating her like a beggar. She walked away with a smile and no
words, again.

A few days later, David received an e-mail from his school inviting him to a school
reunion. David took his family to the reunion to meet his friends, hoping that his mother
wouldn’t show up at school after their last encounter. David’s daughter lost the earrings
she was wearing at the reunion party and made a fuss about it. So, David decided to go
out and buy new ones for her. When David happened to pass by his old house, he stepped
in out of curiosity. He could not find his mother anywhere but only her diary that she
would often scribble in. After all these years, David finally got to see what was written in
it.
David was heartbroken to find out that his mother had donated her other eye to David
when he lost it in an accident during his childhood. She had journaled her dreams and
aspirations for David in that diary and all those times when David misbehaved with her.
Each time she wrote, “I forgive you, my son, I know you love me and I love you a lot.”
Her last words were, “David, I wanted to see you as a rich and successful man living with
a happy family before I die. The doctor said my days were numbered. I wasn’t sure if you
would come down with your family at the reunion and even if you did, whether you
would bring them to our house. For one last time, I forgive you, my son.”. David cried
uncontrollably; he hated himself for being so cruel to his mother. But, it was too late.

The Two Goats

Once upon a time, there were two goats who lived in a dense jungle. They were both
equally and often got into arguments with each other. The two goats didn’t like each
other. A river passed by the forest on which a narrow bridge was built to allow the
animals to cross it. The bridge was narrow enough to allow only one animal to cross at a
time.

The Fight
One day, one of the silly goats was crossing the bridge when he saw the other goat in the
opposite direction who was also trying to cross the bridge. Since the bridge was so
narrow, it was impossible for the two goats to pass at the same time.

Goats standing at the edge of the bridge.

Both the goats stood at the edges of the bridge, waiting for the other to go back. Suddenly
the first goat said, “I want to go first. Allow me to pass." The other goat replied, “No.
You move aside. I have come a long way, so I shall pass first.” They continued arguing
for a while and neither of them was willing to move.

The Consequence
Tired of waiting, the two goats started crossing the bridge from their ends at the same
time. Soon, they reached the middle of the bridge over the river. The goats again started
arguing about who would cross first. In no time, the argument turned into pushes and
blows where one goat struck the other with its horns.

The silly goats fighting in the middle of the bridge.

The fight turned furious, and since the bridge was too narrow, the two goats lost their
balance amidst the fight and simultaneously fell into the river below. The river carried
them away with its swift current. Both the silly goats drowned and died.

Conclusion
Now, do you see why the two goats were fighting and how badly they ended their lives?
Don’t you agree it was silly losing one’s life over a small argument? Remember that
fighting only causes harm in the end.

Once upon a time in Mongolia, there lived a cruel prince.
He was very wicked and unkind to his servant. The
servant was very wise and hardworking. The prince got
pleasure out of hitting his servant and would beat the
servant black and blue without any fault of his.

One day, the prince and the servant were going to a

neighboring country. The prince rode a strong and
sturdy horse while the servant followed him on a frail
horse.
They had to travel a long distance. After a few hours,
the sky became overcast and loud thunder could be
heard at a distance behind them. The prince was a
coward and was very frightened by the clap of thunder.
He looked around for a place to hide but found none.
His servant had not caught up with him yet. So the
prince made his strong horse walk slower and waited
for the servant. When he saw the servant, he shouted,
“Don’t lag behind me, you fool! Keep up with me!”

The servant replied. “How can I keep pace with you?

My horse is so weak.” On hearing this, the prince was
furious and he roared, “It means you haven’t fed the
horse well. It is your fault. What were you doing all
this time, lazy man?” Then he struck the servant on his
head as hard as he could.

At that very moment, there was a streak of lightning in

the sky. The prince was so frightened that he closed
his eyes tightly. The servant saw his brilliant idea. He
took advantage of the opportunity and swinging his
riding-whip, knocked the prince on his head. The prince
thought that lighting had struck him. He was terrified
and he fainted. He thought that God was punishing him
for what he did to his servant. So, from then he always
acted well with the servant.

Moral: We should always be good to everyone or else

we will regret it.
