This tune was reputedly heard in the distance by those trapped in the city of Delhi during the Indian Mutiny, the melody becoming clearer as the relief forces led
by Sir Colin Campbell drew closer. One verse of a song associated with the tune reads:

The Great Argyll he goes before,


He makes the cannons and guns to roar,
With sound o' trumpet, pipe and drum,
The Campbells are coming, Ho-Ro, Ho-Ro!
