THE PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS
TENSE
The Past Perfect Continuous Tense helps us convey the idea that an action
was in progress for some time before something else occurred.
Example: He had been working at the company for five years when
he decided to retire.

Did you know that the Past Perfect Continuous Tense is often
used to emphasize the duration of an action in the past?
