Sensation
Sensation is the process that occurs when sensory receptors
are activated, allowing various forms of stimuli to become
neutral signals in the brain.

Transduction is the conversion of outside stimuli into neutral signals.

Sensory receptors are specialized neurons that are stimulated by different kinds
of energy and transduces this energy into electrical signals.

🌈Synesthesia🌈 is a disorder in which signals from various sensory organs

are processed in the wrong cortical areas, resulting in the sense information
being interpreted as more then one sensation.

So cool!!!

Just Noticeable Difference/Difference Threshold (jnd) is the smallest difference

in 2 stimuli that is detectable 50% of the time.

Absolute threshold is the minimum level of stimulation that a person can

consciously detect 50% of the time.

Sensation 1
Weber-Fechner Law/ Weber's Law states that the Just Noticeable Difference
is a constant ratio of the original stimulus. It has been shown not to hold for
extremes of stimulation.

Weber's fraction

Subliminal perception is the influence of subliminal stimuli which is just

strong enough to activate sensory receptors but not strong enough for people to
be consciously aware of them. This typically influences automatic reactions
rather than direct voluntary behavior.

Dang!

Difference between supraliminal and subliminal perception

Signal detection theory provides a method of assessing the accuracy of

judgements/decisions under certain conditions; used in perception research and
other areas. An individual's correct "hits" are compared against their "misses".

Possible outcomes

Habituation is a tendency of the brain to stop attending to a constant, repeated,

unchanging stimulus.

Sensory adaptation is the tendency of sensory receptor cells to become less

responsive to an unchanging, constant, repeated stimulus.

habituation is actively attempting to ignore the stimuli. Sensory

adaptation refers to a reduction in sensitivity to a stimulus after
constant exposure to it.

👁️ Saccadic movements /microsaccades are tiny unconscious movements

of the eye that keep the eyes from adapting to what they see.
