“Short-Term Certificate Course in French”


(3 months/90 hours)

Preamble:
In today’s academic and professional world, the demand to interact with persons
from other countries is increasing day by day. Students are moving from country to
country for better academic and career perspectives. The whole world is becoming
a global village. In view of the existing demand due to its multiple practical
applications, proficiency in a foreign language can significantly broaden career
opportunities, particularly in fields such as business, diplomacy, tourism, and
academia. It allows individuals to engage with a wider range of people,
communities, and ideas, opening doors to new experiences, relationships, and
possibilities. Moreover, learning a foreign language is not just about acquiring
linguistic skills; it's about expanding horizons, enriching lives, and connecting with
the world in meaningful ways.

In this context, one’s proficiency in French language is of utmost importance.


It is spoken by millions of people worldwide and is an official language of many
countries, numerous international organizations like the United Nations, UNESCO,
NATO, the International Red Cross, and many others. Learning French opens up
opportunities for international communication and collaboration. Moreover, French
is considered a valuable language in many industries, including tourism, hospitality,
fashion, international business, diplomacy, and NGOs. Proficiency in French can
enhance job prospects both domestically and internationally, as it can give you a
competitive edge in the job market.

The proposed Short-Term Certificate Course in French is aimed at students


who wish to learn French from the beginning. The course is designed to make the
students achieve beginner’s level proficiency in French (equivalent to A1 level of
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)). After
successful completion of the course, the students are expected to understand and
use familiar everyday expressions such as giving directions, describing one's
surroundings, talking about likes and dislikes, telling time and date, talking about

daily routine and describing weather in French. The students will also be able to
introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about basic
personal details in French. They will also be prepared to interact in French in a
simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly.

Course Objectives:
The Short-Term Certificate course is aimed at students who wish to learn French
from the beginning. The objectives of the course are to make the students:
 Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases
aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
 Introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about
personal details such as where he/she lives, people they know and things they
have.
 Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly
and is prepared to help.
Course Outcomes:
By the end of this course, the students are expected to attain the beginner’s level
proficiency in French language equivalent to CEFR A1 level (breakthrough), and to
be ready for taking DELF A1 Certification.
