ONE MARKER QUESTIONS

Q1 Some crystals of copper sulphate were dissolved in water. The colour of the
solution obtained would be

(a) green

(b) red

(c) blue

(d) brown.

Q2 Chemically rust is

(a) Hydrated ferrous oxide

(b) hydrated ferric oxide

(c) only ferric oxide

(d) none of these

Q3 An example of reaction in which precipitate is formed is:

(a)Reaction between hydrogen and oxygen

(b)Reaction between lead nitrate and potassium iodide

(c)Reaction between hydrochloric acid and zinc.

(d)Reaction between sodium and water

Q4 Color of magnesium oxide is

A) White

B) Blue

C) Grey

D) Pink

Q5 Assertion (A) : Brown fumes are produced when lead nitrate is heated.

Reason (R) : Nitrogen dioxide gas is produced as a by product due to the

decomposition of lead nitrate.

Q6 Assertion (A) : Brown fumes are produced when lead nitrate is heated.

Reason (R) : Nitrogen dioxide gas is produced as a by product due to the

decomposition of lead nitrate.

TWO MARKER QUESTIONS

Q7 Oil and fat containing food items are flushed with nitrogen. Why?

Q8 Write balanced chemical equations for the following chemical reactions-

(a) Carbon dioxide and water react to form glucose and oxygen.

(b) Hydrogen sulphide gas reacts with oxygen gas to form solid sulphur and
water.
Q9 Give one example of each of the following chemical reactions:

Decomposition Reaction

Double Displacement Reaction

THREE MARKER QUESTIONS

Q10 (a)Explain in detail about the electrolysis of water with diagram.

(b)Name the gases collected at cathode and anode during the electrolysis of
water

Q11 (a) Define Rancidity. What are the methods for prevention of rancidity.

(b)With the help of an activity show that iron is more reactive than copper?

Q12 Identify the oxidising agent and reducing agent in the following reactions

(a) 4NH3 + 5O2 → 4NO + 6H2O

(b) H2O + F2 → HF + HOF

(c) Fe2O3 + 3CO → 2Fe + 3CO2

FOUR MARKER QUESTION

Q13 Corrosion is the phenomenon of deterioration of surface of metal in

presence of air and moisture. It is a natural process and in the presence of a
moist atmosphere, chemically active metals get corroded. This is an oxidation
reaction. Rusting is the process where iron corrodes due to exposure to the
atmosphere. The main circumstance of corrosion occurs with iron because it is
a structural material in construction, bridges, buildings, rail transport, ships,
etc. Aluminium is also an important structural metal, but even aluminium
undergoes oxidation reactions. However, aluminium doesn’t corrode or oxidize
as rapidly as its reactivity suggests. Copper (Cu) corrodes and forms a basic
green carbonate.

(a) What is rusting?

(b) Which two metals do not corrode easily?

(c) Write the chemical name of the compound formed on corrosion of silver.

(d) Explain how corrosion is different from rusting.

FIVE MARKER QUESTION

Q14

(a) 2 gram of Lead Nitrate powder is taken in a boiling tube. The boiling tube is
heated over a flame. Now answer the following questions

(I)State the colour of the fumes evolved and the Residue left.

(ii)Name the type of chemical reaction that has taken place stating its
balanced chemical equation.
(b) Why do we store silver chloride in dark-coloured bottles?
