Multimedia is a form of communication that uses a combination of different content


forms such as text, audio, images, animations, or video into a single interactive
presentation, in contrast to traditional mass media, such as printed material or
audio recordings, which features little to no interaction between users

Function of multimedia computers


create, import, integrate, store, retrieve, edit, and delete two or more types of
media materials in digital form, such as audio, image, full-motion video, and text
information.

(1B)Differentiate between static and time based media

Static media : time independent media such as normal data, text, single images, and
graphics

Time based media : Contemporary artworks that include video, film, slide, audio, or
computer technologies

Static media—this refers to content that doesn’t change. For example, an


advertisement in a newspaper or magazine is static, because it remains as printed.
It will be the same every time we view it. Static media can also refer to those
parts of your website that rarely change. It may include landing pages, homepages
and white papers.
Time based media: this is refers to as any artwork that has both physical and
temporal dimensions. "Contemporary artworks that include video, film, slide, audio,
or computer-based technologies are referred to as time-based media works because
they have duration as a dimension and unfold to the viewer over time."

(II) Streaming: Streaming refers to any media content – live or recorded –

originally developed by Macromedia Inc. It is influenced by HyperTalk, the
scripting language for HyperCard. It is now an implementation of ECMAScript, though
it originally arose as a sibling, both being influenced by HyperTalk

(2A) Explain what linearity and non linearity in multimedia implies


The linear multimedia will go from the start all the way through to the finish
without variation. Non-linear media is the opposite; it doesn't follow that one-way
structure and instead allows free movement around all aspects of the multimedia in
any order.

1. Sound: It is meaningful "Speech" in any language from a whisper to a scream. It
can provide the listening pleasure of music, the startling accent of special
effects, or the ambience of a mood-setting background.

2. Still Graphics: it’s visual representations that do not move. Text is ideal for
transmitting information in a highly articulate manner that can be consistently
interpreted irrespective of the user. Still images, however, allow the content
creator to convey information which can be more freely interpreted by the user.
3.Text: Text is an important component used in many multimedia applications. They
are characters that are used to create words, sentences and paragraphs

These are sites mainly used for connecting with friends and family. They focus more
on person-to-person conversations. Aside from personal conversations, these
platforms encourage knowledge sharing.

2. Video hosting sites


YouTube revolutionized the way we watch, create, and think about video. It
transformed the medium into something accessible. Recent improvements in tech and
connectivity helped video go the rest of the way.

3. Discussion sites
While most of us have seen many a heated discussion happen on Facebook, discussion
sites like Reddit and Quora are specifically designed to spark a conversation.

4. Sharing economy networks


Sites like Airbnb and Rover aren’t just a cool place to find cheap holiday rentals
or a pet sitter. Sharing economy networks bring people who’ve got something they
want to share together with the people who need it.

5.Image and video sharing sites


Visual content like images, infographics, and illustrations capture our hearts,
eyes and imaginations. Social media platforms like Instagram, Imgur, and Snapchat
are designed to amplify the power of image sharing. (Or these days, video sharing.)

I. Old media: are the mass media institutions that dominated prior to the
Information Age; particularly print media, film studios, music studios, advertising
agencies, radio broadcasting, and television.

II. New media: New media is any media—from newspaper articles and blogs to music
and podcasts—that are delivered digitally. From a website or email to mobile phones
and streaming apps, any internet-related form of communication can be considered
new media.
