July 15-20, 2012 Knoxville, TN

Open to high school students completing grades 9 through 12 by September of 2012. Philosophy of Summer Trips Here at Bellingham Covenant Church, we believe strongly in giving students hands-on experiences with their faith. This looks like weekly community gatherings, monthly service projects, retreats, and summer trips. Our summer trips are intended to get us out of the building and into a new environmentone where we can experience our relationship with Christ in new and unexpected ways. We currently have a 3-year rotation for our summer trips: Year 1- In-Country Service Experience (Summer 2010) Year 2- International-Multicultural Service Trip (Summer 2011) Year 3- Denominational Event (CHIC) (Summer 2012) The overall purpose of each summer trip is to explore with students how Christ is working throughout our entire worldand to invite them to join this redemptive work. This summer (2012) is our trip to Tennessee!! Where are we going? This year, we are going to be headed to Knoxville, Tennessee to attend our denominational youth event called CHIC (Covenant High In Christ) Dates: CHIC 2012 will be held July 15-20. Cost: This summer trip will cost APPROXIMATELY $1,000.00/student (We hope to raise a majority of this through our fundraisers...An all-church event held in the spring and the Student Job Board) **There is a $200.00 Deposit Due by January 15, 2011 (non-refundablethis will secure our flight) **Please note: there will be a $75.00 payment due on the 1st of every month. This is to make sure that the trip stays near the front of our thoughts throughout the year. **Finally, we never want money to be the reason someone doesnt go on a trip. We have limited scholarships available for those who need assistance. Please contact Jeff G for more details.

Application Process: This year, were going to ask for 2 things from our students for this summer trip application: 1. Student Registration Form/$200.00 Deposit (Due by January 15, 2012) 2. 300 Word Essay on your faith--Typed (Due WITH your registration form. Please include the following in your paper: How did your faith journey begin? If youve been on a previous trip, how did it challenge or encourage you on your journey? Where are you at now with your faith/What are you learning? Please use applicable scriptures that are encouraging to you. Why do you want to go on this trip? What do you hope to learn about your faith? Also include: What makes you anxious about this trip? What makes you excited?

The importance of Team One of the most significant elements of this trip is the team that God calls to CHIC. To be a part of this trip means that you are also a part of a team of peers who desire to grow closer to God and each other. To that end, each individual member has a responsibility to help the entire team achieve some goals along the way. Please know that I see these trips as a significant formative element in the lives of our students. By saying yes to this trip, you are also saying yes to a deeper level of spiritual accountability in your growing relationship with Christ. Spiritually, each team member will agree to spend time each week reading their Bible and praying for other team members. Accountability partners will be established for encouragement. Also, team members will have the opportunity to share their testimony with others or they may be asked to pray out loud for specific things (safety in travel, thanks for meals, prayer for people, etc.) Financially, each team member will agree to be at all team-fundraisers and make monthly payments on time (unless other arrangements have been made.) Relationally, each team member will agree to treat other members of our team in a respectful manner. We will not tolerate behind the back conversations (gossip), under your breath comments, or anything that causes other team members to feel excluded. We will allow positive and kind words of affirmation and any act of inclusion!

The Importance of Parents Obviously, a summer trip would be impossible without the support of the family. Yes, parents are the key financial driver for these kinds of experiences, but parents are also the key spiritual leaders for these trips too. While you may not be able to go on the actual trip, you have a significant role in helping your son/daughter prepare for this important milestone in their spiritual journey. My challenge for families who have students going is to have regular check-in times where you are able to ask your child how they are feeling about the upcoming trip or to even have a time of prayer and scripture study. This can be as casual as scheduling a Starbucks date with your child or as formal as having a specific family devotional time complete with Bible study and prayer. Id suggest once or twice a month if possibleI think that youll come to enjoy these times. Again, I see our summer trips as one of the most important events we do all year and my desire is to see each trip have as much impact as possible. Our Summer Trip is much more than the one-week we spend togetherlets partner together to make this the best experience ever! Thanks for your support and involvement in CHIC 2012! Jeff G.
