B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
 Math Vocs

1. It is a number with a decimal point.

2. They are the place value on the right

of the decimal point

3. It is the answer in multiplication.

4. They are the numbers that we multiply.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

You found some coins while helping to clean your house. If you will add all your coins, I will
have ₱6.50. How much will you get if you will make those coins three times?

Make these coins 3 times. How

much will you get?

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

To get the answer you will add 6.50 three times as shown below.
1
6 . 5 0
6 . 5 0
+ 6 . 5 0
1 9 . 5 0

But there is a faster way to so you can get the answer. You will just going
to multiply 6.50 by 3.
6 . 5 0 (2 decimal places)
x 3 (0 decimal places)
1 9 .5 0 (2 decimal places)

What if you want to know how many is 9 sets of 6.50 altogether? Which will you prefer?

6.50 + 6.50 + 6.50 + 6.50 + 6.50 + 6.50 + 6.50 + 6.50 + 6.50 = 58. 50 or

Use multiplication instead? To lessen time and space?

C. Study the problems below. Then answer the questions that follow.

1. Dick works 40 hours a week. If his hourly rate is P86.75, how much is he paid in
a week?
2. If one meter of cloth costs P72.95, how much would 6.5 meters cost? If Jenny
money was a 500-peso bill, how much was her change?

1. What is asked?
2. What are given?
3. What is/are the hidden questions?
4. What operations will you use to solve the problem?
5. What is the number sentence?
6. What is the answer?

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

We use decimals every day while dealing with money, weight, length etc. Decimal numbers
are used in situations where more precision is required than the whole numbers can
provide. For example, when we calculate our weight on the weighing machine, we do not
always find the weight equal to a whole number on the scale. In order to know our exact
weight, we must understand what the decimal value on the scale means.

H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

 How do you multiply decimals numbers?

1. Multiply the decimals as with whole numbers.
2. Count the number of decimal places in the factors (multiplicand and multiplier)
3. Place the decimal point in the product. The number of decimal places in a
product is the sum of the number of decimal places of the factors.
4. Sometimes it is necessary to insert zero/s between the decimal point and the
first digit of the product when the number of digits obtained in the product is
less than the total number of decimal places in the factors.

 How do you multiply decimals by 10, 100, and 1000? What is a shorter way of
doing this?
 Move the decimal point to the right the same number of zeroes as the
decimal places.
 How do you multiply decimals by 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001? What is a shorter way of
doing this?
 Move the decimal point to the left the same number of places as there are
decimal places in the power of 10

 How do we solve 2- to 3-step word problems involving addition,

subtraction, and multiplication of decimals?
o Important reminders for analysis of problems.
o Have them draw a diagram/illustration to help them understand the
problem.
o Lead them to transform the problem into an equation using the correct
order of operations.
o Always verify the correctness of their solution and answer by working
backward.
o Label the answers correctly.

Day 5
I. Evaluating learning
1. Perform the operation.
a) 72.08 b) 8.056 c) 59.17 d) 0.43 e) 0.03 f) 0.009
x 6.9 x 7.4 x 2.04 x 0.08 x3 x 46

MALPITIC INTEGRATED SCHOOL 7

2. What is the product of 2.02 and 1.23?
a. 1.6467 b. 2.4846 c. 3.523 d. 4.793

3. Which of these is the product of 4.26 x 100 ?

a. 4 260 b. 426 c. 42.6 d. 4.26
4. Multiply. 3.99 x 0.1
a. 399 b. 39.9 c. 3.99 d. 0.399
5. Find the product. 0.013 x 0.01 = N
a. 0.00013 b. 0.0013 c. 0.01 d. 0.13

SANDWICHES FOR THE MEETING

Mary prepared sandwiches for the 30 seminar participants. She bought 3 loaves of
bread at 42.50 each, 2 bottles mayonnaise at 55.50 a bottle, and 1.5 kilograms of ham
at 240 a kilogram.
1. How much did she pay for 3 loaves of bread ? ________
2. Before paying the cashier, she thought of buying 3 bottles of mayonnaise, how much
must she pay? ________
3. How much did she pay for the ham she bought? ________
4. How much more did she pay for the bread than the mayonnaise? ________
5. How much did she pay for all the items she bought? ________
6. If she gave the saleslady 1,000, how much change did she receive? ________

J. Additional activities for application or remediation

A. Find the product. Place the decimal point correctly

1) 0.67 x 0.24 = 01608
2) 34 x 0.23 = 782
3) 0.518 x 0.6 = 3108
4) 0.92 x 57 = 5244
5) 0.39 x 0.76 = 2964

B. Analyze then solve the problem.

Mang Randy, a balut vendor bought 100 new duck eggs at P9.85 each. How much
did he pay for all the eggs?
1. What is asked?
2. What are the given facts?
3. What operation to be used?
4. What is the number sentence?
5. What is the correct answer?
