Ma’am Haina

is a short poem that expresses the speaker’s personal


emotions and feelings. It is a combination of lyrics which
means words of a song and poetry or verse.
Features of
1. It has a song-like quality
2. It explores emotions and personal feelings.
3. It has literary devices that are used to highlight the
poet’s writing purpose.
It refers to the rhythmic pattern
of a line within the stanza of a
poem.
When a line has a two-syllable
units that flow form an
unaccented beat to accented
beat, the rhythmic pattern is
said to be an iambic meter.
When there are three iambic
units in a line, it is called iambic
trimeter.

It is the emotional response the
author would like his reader to feel
upon reading his composition.

Figures of Speech
It is figure of speech used to
compare one thing to another.
It uses the words such as
“like” or “as”.
Example

Your eyes are like diamonds.


It is a figurative speech used to
describe something by
referring another thing. It does
not use words such as “like” or
“as”

You have a heart of gold.

Welcomed in the sentence is a human characteristic

Forms of Lyric
Poetry
It is a 14-line poem in
iambic pentameter
In poetry, iambic pentameter
refers to a line of verse that is
composed of syllables
arranged in five metrical feet.
Each line consists of an
unstressed syllable.
William Shakespear used
iambic pentameter in his plays
and sonets.

so you have iambic pentameter in sonnets!
It is a formal poem written to
address, praise, or give
tribute to a person, thing,
place, or idea.
It is a sad poem often
expressing sorrow over
someone who died.

intended message of the poet. In

The Day I Lost you

My mind is the seat of so many queries
This day seems to be the day of all worries
Answers are overwhelming not only to me
But with everyone around me

Reality is dawning
The pain is excruciating

My heart throbs like the sound of the drums
