 Tigers are counted in India every 4 years, as of 2022 – India has a total of 3167 tigers.

 With a 50 per cent increase in the last four years, MP has the maximum number (785) of tigers in
the country

 Tiger Reserves are notified by State Governments as per provisions of Section 38V of the Wildlife
(Protection) Act, 1972 on the advise of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

 Tiger is the national animal of India, Approximately 75% of the world's tigers are found in India.

 The Tiger Project was started by the former PM Indira Gandhi in 1973 for the conservation of
tigers due to the continuous decline in the number of tigers in India by the Government of India.

 Under this, 9 Tiger Reserves of India were protected under the Tiger Project.

 India's first tiger reserve became Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand.

 International Tiger Day – 29 July

 On 29 July 2010, during the Tiger Summit in the city of St. Petersburg, Russia, an agreement was
reached in the context of the declining number of tigers around the world.
That is why International Tiger Day is celebrated on 29th July.

 Under this agreement, a target has been set to double the tiger population in the world by the
year 2022.

 This target was accomplished by Nepal in 2018.

facility ideal for astronomy enthusiasts.

 Under the Cheetah Reintroduction Project, eight Namibian cheetahs (5 females and 3 males)
were released into enclosures at Kuno National Parks (MP) on 17 Sept 2022 by PM Modi

 A few African cheetahs translocated to Kuno National Park in MP will be relocated to the Gandhi
Sagar Wildlife sanctuary in Mansaur of the state a forest dept. official said.

 National Parks are the areas that are set by the government to conserve the natural environment

 India’s first national park was established in 1936, now known as Jim Corbett National Park, in
Uttarakhand

 In 1970, India had only five national parks

 Areas established under Section 35(4) of wildlife protection act (1972) - There are currently 106
national parks in India

 Nagarahole (Rajiv Gandhi) National Park was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and was
upgraded into a national park in 1988. It was declared as the 37th Tiger reserve under Project
Tiger in 1999

 The Nagarahole River flows through the park, which joins the Kabini River which also is a
boundary between Nagarahole and Bandipur Ntional Park

 The Bhitarkanika Mahotsav, a three-day festival to be held in Nalitapatia village in Bhitarkanika


National Park (It is the second largest Mangrove ecosystems of India)

 It is the breeding place for the Salt Water Crocodiles

 It was first declared as Wildlife sanctuary in 1975. Later in 1998 due to its natural beauty,
ecology and wide species of flora and fauna it was constituted as National park. In August 2002,
the same region was designated as 2nd Ramsar site

 First National Park in India Hailey National Park is the oldest national park in India, now known
as Jim Corbett national park

 Floating National Park in India Keibul Lamjao National Park is a floating national park, located in
Manipur

 Bhavani River, a tributary of Kaveri River, and Kunthipuzha River, a tributary of Bharathappuzha
river, originate in the vicinity of Silent Valley

 Lion tailed macaques is the flagship species of the Silent valley national Park

 The Changlang district administration has declared cultivation of large cardamom in the
Namdapha National Park (NP) illegal

 The Noa-Dehing river, is a tributary of the Brahmaputra and flows in a North-South direction in
the middle of the National Park

 It was established as a National Park in 1983, and it was declared as a Tiger Reserve in the same
year of 1983 in the same year

 It is only park in the World to have the four Feline species of big cat namely the Tiger (Panthera
Tigris), Leopard (Panthera Pardus), Snow Leopard (Panthera Uncia) and Clouded Leopard
(Neofelis Nebulosa)

 Pench National Park is on the border of Maharashtra & M Pradesh. So Pench National
Park(Jawahar Lal Nehru) is in Maharashtra and Pench(Priyardishini) National Park is in Madhya
Pradesh

 Keibul Lamjao National Park is located on which lake - Loktak lake – Manipur (The World’s Only
Floating National Park is Under Threat)

 Indravati attained the status of a national park in 1981 and a tiger reserve in 1983. It is home to
one of the last remaining populations of the endangered wild water buffalo

 Maximum National Park state- M. P. (9), Andaman & Nicobar (9)

 Gulf of Kutchh National Park was the first marine national park.
