9. A man goes 24 m due east and then 10 m due north. How far is he away from his
initial position?
10. A tree is broken at a height of 6 m from the ground and its top touches the
ground at a distance of 8 m from the base of the tree. Find the original height of the
tree.
11. Evaluate :

• (3/- 5) ÷ (- 9/- 25)
12. The product of two rational numbers is 12. If one of them is -8. find the other.

14. From a 72-m-long rope, pieces of equal sizes are cut. If the length of one piece

16. Two new cars were valued at ₹3 96 000 and ₹5 96 000 respectively. After 6
months, the market value of each fell by ₹96 000. Find the ratio of their values (1) in
the beginning and (ii) 6 months later.
17. Two numbers are in the ratio 4: 5 and their sum is 180. Find the numbers.
18. The ratio of the number of rose plants to that of sunflower plants in a garden is
3:5. If there are 25 sunflower plants, find the number of rose plants.
19. Find a : c when (1) a / b = 2/5 and b / c = 4/7 and (1) a:b=11:13 and b:c= 5/3 : 5.
20. Divide ₹1 08 000 between Rama, Anu and Beni in the ratio 15: 10:2.

28. Aditi has enough money for 6 weeks of holidaying if she spends ₹1400 per
week. How l will the money last if she spends ₹1050 per week?
29. The angles of a triangle are in the ratio 3:5:2. Find the biggest angle, it being
known that the sum of the three angles of a triangle is 180°.
30. A man buys 10 L of petrol for ₹420. How much petrol could he have bought for
the same amount if the price had been 2 less per litre?
31. Six towels take 30 minutes to dry in the sun. How long do 2 towels take to dry
in the same situation? Can this problem be worked out by the unitary method?
32. Find the fourth proportional to the numbers 42, 18 and 7.
33. Suresh spent ₹560 in the market. If the money he spent was 40% of the money
he had, how much money did he have?
34. 3900 bulbs were used to decorate a building. Of these, 25% were green. 15%
were red, and the rest were yellow. Find the number of yellow bulbs used.
35. Pakistan scored 270 runs and fell short of India's score by 10%. How much did

36. On a rainy day, 30% of the students of a class were absent. If 84 students were
present what was the strength of the class?

40. Ram has ₹(16a - 3b) with him. If he spends ₹(2a + b) how much money is left
with him?
