    For Absolute Beginners

    This PDF Cheat Sheet is meant for Absolute Beginners who know zero
    Finnish. This guide will put you on the right track… plus teach you a bit
    of Finnish along the way!

    Hello! (Hei!)

    But, speaking of Finnish… Finnish in Finnish is suomi. Suomi is a good word (sana) to know since you
    know… you are now learning it.

    So, how do you get started with suomi?

    Now, since we have you (sinä) here… we want to know:

    • What’s your name?


    • Mikä sinun nimesi on?

    To reply to that and introduce yourself, you (sinä) would say…

    • I’m (name).
    • Minä olen...(...).

    Oh, “minä” is a new word (sana).

    “minä” is how you say “I” in suomi.

    So, just stick your name in there.

    By the way, in case you didn’t notice…

    Now you know a whole bunch of sana and phrases.

    1. Hei - Hello
    2. suomi - Finnish
    3. kuunnella - To listen
    4. puhua - To speak
    5. ymmärtää - To understand
    6. lukea - To read
    7. Hauska tutustua. - Nice to meet you
    8. sinä - You
    9. minä - I/me/myself
    10. sana - word
    11. Mikä sinun nimesi on? - What’s your name?
    12. Minä olen...(...). - I am (name).

    Not bad for a quick 2-3 minute read, right?
