Defination,Issues, Sources, and methodology

INTRODUCTION
-Sociologists have defined history as the study of life in society in the
past, in all its aspects, in relation to present development the future
hopes. It focuses on the story of man in time, an inquiry into the past
based on valid evicences. Indeed, it thrives on the evidence which
validates the authenticity and credibility of an event

HISTORY
-The Greek word historia originally meant inquiry, the act of seeking
knowledge, as well as the knowledge that results from inquiry. And
from there it's a short jump to the accounts of events that a person
might put together from making inquiries - what we might call stories.

HERODOTUS
(Father of History)
-HERODOTUS was a Greek historian and geographer from the Greek
city of Halicarnassus, part of the Persian Empire and a later citizen of
Thurii in modern Calabria, Italy. He is known for having written the
Histories - a detailed account of the Greco- Persian Wars.

PRIMARY SOURCES
-In the study of history as an academic dicipline, the use of primary
sources is necessary. A primary source provides director firsthand
evidence about an event, an object, a person or a work of art. These
primary sources provide the original materials on which other research
is based and enable students and other researcher to get as close as
posible
to what actually happened during a particular event or era.

-Secondary sourves generally describe, discuss, interpret, comment
upon, analyze, evaluate, summarize, and process primary sources.
These secondary source materials can be articles in newspaper or
popular magazines,book or movie reviews, or articles found in
scholarly journals that discuss or evaluate someone else original
research.

METHODOLOGY OF HISTORY
-The methodology of history refers to the systematic approach and
techniques used by historians to research, analyze, and interpret
historical events and sources. It encompasses the principles and
methods employed in gathering evidence, assessing the reliability of
sources, constructing narratives, and understanding the past. This
methodology often involves critical evaluation of primary and
secondary sources, contextual analysis, and the application of
theoretical frameworks to build coherent historical interpretations.
