Relearning: Slopes Checkpoint

Find the slope of the line through each pair of points.

Use the formula to calculate the unit rate of change for the data in
each table. The rate of change is constant for the data in each table
Unit: Functions and Graphing Linear Equations
Essential Questions

 Where is the following located on a coordinate plane: origin, x-axis, y-axis and
quadrants.
 How do I graph linear equations from a table or an equation?
 How is the slope of a line identified and determined?
 Why is the graph of an equation linear written as y = mx + b?
 How can you represent a linear function in a way that reveals its slope and y-intercept?
 What are the benefits for having a linear equation written in slope intercept form?
 How do linear equations, slopes, intercepts, and points on a line help us solve relevant
problems and make predictions?
 What are the benefits for having a linear equation written in slope intercept form?
 What is the standard form?
 How do I find the x- and y– intercepts given a linear equation or graph?

Unit Learning Targets

 Identify the four types of slopes.

 Find slope using Rise over Run or by using the slope formula.
 Use the slope‐intercept form to identify the slope and y‐intercept of a line.
 Graph a line whose equation is in slope‐intercept form.
 Find the equation of a line given its slope and y‐intercept.
 Graph a line whose equation is in the form Ax + By = C.
 I can graph a linear equation by converting from standard form to y=mx + b first.
 I can find x and y intercepts given an equation by solving algebraically.
 I can find x and y intercepts by identifying points on a graph.

Big Idea:

 Linear functions represent quantities that change at a constant rate. These mathematical
relationships can be represented and analyzed using words, tables, graphs, and equations.

Upcoming Assessments:

 Checkpoint 2: Finding slopes using Rise/Run & Slope Formula, identifying and/or
finding "m" and "b", converting to slope intercept form, graphing in slope intercept
form, graphing using intercepts "x" and "y". May 23rd
