RULES FOR PRE-MODERN CLASS


SEASON COMMENCING JANUARY 2020
Pre Modern Period 1.1.1991 – 31.12.1997

The PCRA Pre-Modern class is for bikes manufactured between 1 January 1991 and 31
December 1997 and on the PCRA Pre-Modern eligibility list. Should a period correct model
you wish to enter not be on the eligibility list, you may apply to the PCRA Pre-Modern
Representative to have the model considered for addition to the list. The Yamaha R1 is
specifically excluded.
PERIOD OF BIKE/COMPONENTS
The period of a machine will be determined by the year of manufacture of the latest major
component. For the purpose of these rules, the “year of manufacture” will be defined as the
year which;
A- For a road based machine, the date the machine, or its latest major component was
first available for sale and delivery to the general public.
B- For a competition-only machine, the year in which the machine, or its latest major
component first appeared in competition.
Major components are;
A- All engine and transmission external castings
B- Frames
C- Swing arms
D- Brakes
E- Forks and Fork yokes
F- Carburettors and throttle bodies
Modifications to major components are permitted, providing such modifications are visually
compatible with modifications that were known and used in the period.
The dating of replicated major components will be defined as the year of manufacture of
the original component being replicated.
Components manufactured outside the period will be eligible if they are visually compatible
with components from the period.
Grey Import machines without compliance plates will have eligibility determined by frame
number and model year.
TECHNICAL
Fairings, bodywork, exhaust silencers and cosmetic components must be based on patterns
known and used in the period.
No radial mounted brake calipers, wave or petal brake rotors are permitted.
Tyre choice and wheel size is open, but wheels must be from the period, or VISUALLY
INDISTINGUISHABLE from wheels available from the period.
2% maximum oversize over the engine’s standard capacity is permitted. Change to a bigger
capacity period engine is permitted. The 2% oversize limit will apply to the substitute
engine.
Motorcycling Australia Manual of Motorcycle Sport section 8D- Road Race Technical
Regulations- will apply to all machines within the period.

PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY
Only machines on the PCRA Eligibility List may be entered in the Pre-Modern Class.
Applications for machines not on the eligibility list may be made to the Pre-Modern
Representative.
Proof of eligibility; The onus of proof of eligibility shall rest wholly upon the rider or entrant
of the machine. The eligibility and dating of machines for these classes shall be considered
in terms of major and minor components.
All Competitors please note; If you are attempting to enter a machine, or a component
fitted to a machine that is not widely known to be available in the specified period, then you
must have documented evidence that the machine, or component was available in the
period, or is a visually compatible replica of a machine or component that was available in
the period.
CLASSES WITHIN PRE-MODERN
Pre- Modern Unlimited;
A- 751cc - 1300cc 4 cylinder 4 stroke machines

Pre-Modern Superbike;
A- 601cc - 750cc 4 cylinder 4 stroke machines
B- 751cc – 1000cc Twin cylinder 4 stroke European Manufactured machines
C- 851cc – 1000cc Twin cylinder 4 stroke Japanese Manufactured machines
D- 901cc – 1000cc Twin cylinder 4 stroke American Manufactured machines
E- 900cc – 1000cc Twin cylinder SOHC 4 stroke European Manufactured machines

Pre-Modern Super Sport;


A- 401cc – 600cc 4 stroke machines
B- 401cc – 750cc Twin cylinder 4 stroke European Manufactured machines
C- 401cc – 850cc Twin cylinder 4 stroke Japanese Manufactured machines
D- 401cc – 900cc Twin cylinder 4 stroke American Manufactured machines
E- 401cc – 900cc Twin cylinder SOHC 4 stroke European Manufactured machines
F- 251cc – 500cc 2 stroke machines
Pre-Modern Formula 3;
A- 0 – 400cc 4 stroke machines
B- 0 – 250cc 2 stroke machines (non GP)
C- 0 – 125 cc 2 stroke GP machines
Pre-Modern 250GP;
A- 126cc - 250cc 2 stroke GP machines
Competitors may cross-enter up one category only:

 Superbike may cross-enter to Unlimited;


 Supersport may cross-enter to Superbike;
 F3 may cross-enter to Supersport EXCEPT:
 0-125cc 2 stroke GP machines may only cross-enter to 250GP class only;
 126cc – 250cc 2 stroke GP machines may cross-enter into Supersort class.
POST CLASSIC RACING ASSOCIATION PRE_MODERN ELIGIBILITY LIST
The following models are eligible to enter the PCRA PreModern class. Only models on the
eligibility list may be entered.
Motorcycles manufactured after 31 December 1997 may be entered if they are unchanged
from the 1997 model.
