1. Introduction:
We are designing and fabricating a mini off grid
horizontal wind turbine that will be used for household uses. like every
wind turbine it will energy and convert it into electrical energy. harness
wind

Design Concept
• The wind turbine is designed to be compact and suitable for household
use.
• It consists of three stepper motors that can serve as generators. Stepper
motors are being used as they can generate electrical power when
rotated.
Physical characteristics
• The turbine has a sweep area of approximately 9 feet, which suggests a
relatively small-scale design suitable for residential applications.

4
• The compact size allows for easy installation on building roofs,
especially those located in coastal areas and near highways where wind
exposure is likely higher.

Gear Box
• a three step gear system is design with speed ratio of 1:3.7 resulting 51
revolution at the last gear.

5
2. Problem Discussion:
Gear Box
• In this project we face many problems regarding balancing of
gear& mounting of the bearings and gears . The gear box ratio is
1:3 , one time rotation of the driven is then rotation of the last
gear is 51 which means the output is 51 for a Stepper Motor.
• Here are the some picture & video of the gear box, in which we
successfully attain the required output.

2. Problem Discussion:
Wing Designing and Mold
• Firstly we design the mold on software for wing, the
problem we face the material of the mold, extra material
removing phase, wooden box, shape of mold.
• In this mold we make mold with POP and White Cement
with the ration of ½.
• Here is picture and video of mol and final results.

2. Problem Discussion:
Stepper Motor
• At this step of our project we use 4 rectifiers for a motor, our goal
is to use stepper motor instead of generator for a small wind
turbine there are so many problems regarding connections, but at
last we achieve our goal energy harness.
• Picture may define the connection of motor.

3. Aim and Objectives:

1. The primary objective of this project is to design a

simple and efficient wind turbine that can effectively
generate electricity in the specific environmental
conditions of Karachi.
2. The turbine should be capable of capturing wind
energy and converting it into electrical power to meet
a significant portion of a household's energy demands.
3. By doing so, homeowners can mitigate the impact of
frequent power outages, reduce their reliance on the
conventional grid, and achieve long-term cost savings.

9. Safety and Precautions
1. Safety precautions are paramount when designing and implementing
a small wind turbine.
2. Ensure proper electrical safety by grounding and insulating
components, following electrical codes, and implementing circuit
protection.
3. Incorporate mechanical safety features, conduct regular maintenance
inspections, and adhere to safety protocols when working at heights.
Consider wind conditions and site safety, securing the turbine and
assessing potential obstructions.
4. Prioritize fire safety with fire-resistant materials, proper ventilation,
and fire extinguishing equipment.
5. Display safety signage, provide clear instructions, and raise awareness
among users.
6. Comply with regulations and seek professional guidance for a safe and
successful project.

11. Results & Discussion
Through this project, we aim to
develop a functional prototype of a small wind turbine specifically
designed for homes in Karachi. The prototype will undergo rigorous testing
to assess its performance and efficiency in generating electricity. By
successfully implementing this wind turbine, we anticipate that
households in Karachi will experience improved energy reliability, reduced
dependency on the unreliable power grid, and a decrease in electricity
costs.

20
12. Conclusion
Designing a small wind turbine for home energy
generation in Karachi holds significant potential to address the electricity-
related challenges faced by residents. By harnessing the power of wind,
this project aims to provide a sustainable and reliable source of electricity,
enabling homeowners to overcome frequent power outages and rising
electricity costs. Implementing this solution at the grassroots level can
contribute to the overall energy resilience of the city and pave the way for
a greener, more sustainable future.
