The Emperor Akbar was very fond of Shikar and often Birbal, his companion, went with him. The
emperor went hunting so often that the animals were getting fewer and fewer in the jungles. This,
Birbal did not like, but he couldn't say so to the emperor directly.
One day when both of them were, as usual, on a hunting trip, they came to a lonely place where they
saw two owls sitting in a tree. The Owls were hooting.
The emperor said "Birbal you told me some time back that you knew the language of birds, Can you
tell me what those two owls are saying to each other?
Birbal pretended to listen carefully to the birds. He then told the Emperor, Sarkar the two owls are
the heads of two families. One of them has a daughter and the other a son. They are talking about
marriage of the two children. The groom's father wants a dowry of forty jungles, without any animal
in them. The bride's father is ready to give him twenty such jungles right now. He says he will find
twenty more after just two months. He is asking the groom's father to wait till then.
Birbal stopped for a moment. Then the Emperor asked him, ‘But why is the owl asking the other to
wait for two months’?
The two Owls were still hooting Birbal pretended once again to listen carefully to their 'talk’ then
said, Sarkar, this is what the bride's father says. If the other party waits for a time, he can easily give
forty jungles bare of animals?

Long ago goods were manufactured by craftsmen who were skilled work men. A craftsman was proud
of each article he made. He spent a long time in making it and took great care over its manufacturer
and people paid a high price for it when it was finished. All the luxurious Persian carpets, the beautiful
Chinese pottery and the handmade laces of certain European countries were made this way. But these
articles were bought only by the rich. Poor people had to be satisfied with goods that were roughly
and cheaply made.
When the population for Europe increased, there was demand for goods of better quality. These goods
had to be produced in factories and workshops where hundreds of workers were employed. The
intention of the steam engine helped manufacturers by giving them cheaper power to work their
machines. Machines took the place of men. Production was increased. People were able to buy articles
of good qualities at low prices. The age of mass production means the manufacturer of a large number
of identical articles by the use of machinery. Cars, Radios and Cameras are produced today.
A conveyor belt plays a large part in mass production. By means of conveyor belt which moves
continuously. Articles are conveyed from point to point during the various stages in their manufacture.
A lot of time is saved in this way.
Visit to a factory is an interesting experience. Take for example a biscuit factory. The whole process
of biscuit making is done by machinery. Then the biscuits are carried by a conveyor belt to the oven.

Then they move through oven, they are slowly cooked. When they are cooked, they are taken out of
the moving belt by workers and packed into boxes. The boxes are weighted, made air tight and
