Title: Confined Space Entry Training

Objective: By the end of the training, learners will be able to identify and safely enter and exit
a confined space.
Audience: Workers who may need to enter a confined space for work, such as those in
construction, utilities, and maintenance.
Duration: 45 min
Materials needed:
 PowerPoint slides
 Handouts outlining safe confined space entry practices
 Confined space entry permit example
 Personal protective equipment (PPE) used for confined space entry, such as hard
hats, gloves, and respirators
 A mock confined space or photos/videos of confined spaces for demonstration
purposes
 A checklist to ensure all safety protocols are in place
Lesson Plan:
1- Introduction (15 minutes)
 Introduce the topic of confined space entry and explain why it is important to follow
safety protocols.
 Discuss the risks associated with confined space entry, such as oxygen deficiency,
toxic gases, and physical hazards.
 Provide an overview of the course objectives and what learners will be able to
accomplish by the end of the training.
2- Identifying Confined Spaces (30 minutes)
 Define what constitutes a confined space and provide examples.
 Discuss the types of hazards that may be present in confined spaces.
 Review the safety protocols that must be in place before entering a confined space,
such as having a confined space entry permit, having a standby person, and testing
the air quality.
3- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (30 minutes)
 Review the personal protective equipment (PPE) that is required for confined space
entry.
 Discuss the proper use of PPE, including how to properly fit and maintain the
equipment.
 Review the hazards that PPE is designed to protect against.
4- Confined Space Entry Procedures (45 minutes)
 Review the procedures for entering and exiting a confined space, including
communication protocols and rescue procedures.
 Discuss the responsibilities of the entry supervisor, standby person, and entrant.
 Review the emergency response plan and discuss how to activate it.
5- Conclusion (15 minutes)
 Review the key takeaways from the training.
 Provide an opportunity for learners to ask any questions or seek clarification on any
of the training topics.
 Distribute handouts and remind learners of the importance of following safe confined
space entry practices.
6- Assessment:
 Provide a written test or quiz to assess learners' understanding of confined space
entry safety protocols.
 Have learners demonstrate safe confined space entry procedures in a mock confined
space.
