Assessment

Write an expository essay that informs your audience about a significant problem you aspire to
solve when you grow up. Use academic writing to describe the problem in detail, its causes and
effects, and explain (not argue for) two possible solutions for positive change. Support your ideas
with well-researched evidence.

Your expository essay must be based on this prompt and topic, and it must incorporate ideas and
information found in at least three researched sources.

Step 1: Completed Essay

Insert the final draft of your expository essay here. Remember to include your introduction,
three body paragraphs, and conclusion. Your final draft should be in paragraph form, with all
required evidence from research and properly formatted MLA internal citations included.

Step 2: Works Cited

There are several features that are required for a properly formatted MLA Works Cited page:
 The font is Times New Roman size 12.
 Works Cited appears at the top center of the page.
 Sources are listed in alphabetical order by author name or title if there is no author.
 Sources that are more than one line in length are reverse indented on the second and
following lines.
 The entire page is double-spaced.

Step 3: Reflection
Answer each of the reflection questions below in 2-3 complete sentences.

This is a prompt that could

easily turn into a persuasive
essay. How did you make
sure your writing was
expository and not
persuasive?

Reflect on your research

process. What did you find
to be the biggest challenge
when finding credible
sources or discerning
information within those
sources?

Why do you think your

chosen problem has not yet
been resolved?
