Q1. Draw less than and more than ogive from the following data
Wages: 20-24 25-29 30-34 35-39 40-44 45-49 50-54 55-54 60-64
No. of workers 4 5 12 23 31 10 8 5 2
Use the graphs of ogive to find median wage, also calculate the median wage with the
help of formula compare both the results.
Q2. The administrator of a Georgia Hospital surveyed the number of days 200 randomly
chosen patients stayed in the hospital following an operation. The data are
Stay in days 1-3 4-6 7-9 10-12 13-15 16-18 19-21 22-24
Frequency 18 90 44 21 9 9 4 5
a) Calculate the standard deviation and mean
b) According to Chebyshev’s theorem how many stays should be between 0 and 17
days? How many are actually in that interval.
c) Because the distribution is roughly bell shaped, how many stays can we expect
between 0 and 17 days?
Q3. From the following data construct a Box and Whisker plot also find the upper and
lower limit and also identify any outliers if any. The data consist of 74, 62, 84, 72, 61, 83,
72, 81, 64, 71, 63, 61, 60, 67, 74, 66, 64, 79, 75, 76, 69, 68, 78, 67, 73
Q4. The National Quality Research Centre at the University of Michigan provides
a quarterly measure of consumer opinions about products and services. A survey of 10
restaurants in the Fast Food/Pizza group showed a sample mean customer satisfaction
index of 71. Past data indicate that the population standard deviation of the index has
been relatively stable with σ = 5.
a) Using 95% confidence, what is the margin of error and also construct the
confidence interval
b) What is the margin of error if 99% confidence is desired
Q5. Given that z is a standard normal random variable, compute the following
probabilities.
a) P(z ≤ -1.0)
b) P(z ≥ -1.0)
c) P(z ≥ 1.5)
d) P(z≤ 2.5)
e) P(3 ≤ z ≤1)
