TOPIC: INNOVATION AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Welcoming a guest who has worked extensively in Vietnam after nearly 20

years abroad.
DR. SON DO LENH (CHIEF EXPERIENCE OFFICER – TOP RETAIL BANK
IN SWITZERLAND)
Experience: Banking, Maritime Transport, Data, Education, and Consulting
→ Assisting businesses in shaping their digital transformation strategies and
implementing a flexible and adaptive corporate culture.

I. INNOVATION
"Innovation is essentially about looking at an old phenomenon or an existing
context from a new perspective and figuring out how to solve an old problem
using a new approach, with a concrete example”
Example: In the banking and finance industry, a portfolio management
platform has undergone a 20-year journey of development, revolving around
people, and must continue to adapt and change."

Core of Innovation: Observing, Asking Questions, and Thinking to Find New

Solutions for Old Contexts

Technology is always changing, THE ISSUE LIES IN PEOPLE AND

PROCESSES
→ When looking at a process, we can identify the manual tasks within it and
see where changes would bring the most value (Process Streamlining).

II. RETHINK
USER EXPERIENCE (Internal Customers, External Customers) → PROCESSES
AND ORGANIZATION → TECHNOLOGY AND PLATFORMS ( VẼ SƠ ĐỒ KIM TỰ

III. IMPROVING BUSINESS PERFORMANCE

Quickly update on global situations → Adjust strategy → Rapid testing →
Integrate into the Customers' Portfolio

IV. CHALLENGES OF INNOVATION

Not everyone has the courage to rethink and change things that have
existed for many years, even if the potential for success is higher than
what they are used to. There aren't many small wins or quick wins, and
people are often too dependent on knowing the outcome before taking
action instead of experimenting.

→ Form teams with diverse components (cross-functional) to get a

COMPLETE PICTURE.

→ To bring about change, it is necessary to help individuals see the

BENEFITS of the change.

→ Believe in personal conviction (Don’t spend too much time perfecting

the plan; instead, break it down into smaller plans, test those samples,
and adapt along the way).

V. DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
Digital transformation is essentially using technology to transform a strategy,
business model, or operational model (with strategic transformation being
the most valuable).

Transformation includes:

 Efficiency (not too much change)

 Sustaining (adding new services or entirely new initiatives unrelated to
current operations)
 Transformative (making changes to keep things as simple and fast as
possible with the current mode of operation)

→ It is important not to focus solely on one approach but to balance all three.

VI. DESIGN THINKING

WHAT IS DESIGN THINKING?

It is a field that originated from creativity, but over time, it has become
related to business and is extremely important for INNOVATION.

The aim is to generate as many possibilities and perspectives as possible,

collect a large amount of data with a certain direction, and once enough data
is gathered, identify the key issue by narrowing down and experimenting.
→ Design thinking not only helps accomplish tasks within a certain timeframe
but also allows for organizing the order of tasks in the most efficient way
during that time.

"Getting the right things" refers to focusing on doing the most

important tasks or activities that truly matter and bring value,
rather than just doing things efficiently. It’s about prioritizing
actions that align with key goals and objectives, ensuring that
efforts contribute to meaningful outcomes.

In essence, it’s not just about being productive but being effective.
For example, in a business setting, it means identifying the critical
projects that drive growth or solve significant problems, rather than
getting caught up in routine tasks that don’t add much value. It’s
about "doing the right things" before worrying about "doing things
(DÙNG LÀM Ý THAM KHẢO KHÔNG NÉM VÀO
right."

VII. LESSONS

 Always be flexible, proactive, and continuously improve ourselves to keep

up with current trends, while also rethinking old definitions and ideas to
identify problems and improve them for the better.
→ Theoretical lessons alone are not enough; it is necessary to experiment
and practice in real life and society to gain the most accurate and proper
understanding.
→ It is not necessary to perfect a plan entirely; instead, break it down into
smaller plans and implement and test those smaller plans to find the most
suitable strategies.
