Dear Mr. Jay Inslee,

I am a student of Rosa Parks Elementary School and I’m writing this letter with a special
request. Can you imagine travel without planes? If Orville and Wilbur Wright did not invent
airplanes, we might have to wait longer for such invention. The Wright brothers were curious
and creative people. They were interested in flying objects from very young age. They worked
hard on their dream since graduation and finally made a successful plane. They are the reason
that today we can travel so easily even across the ocean!
Orville and Wilbur Wright had an interesting early life. As kids, their dad gave them tiny
helicopter toys. This is one of the main reasons why the Wright Brothers began to make a
plane. When they went to high school, they opened up a printing company where they showed
how good they were at using mechanical skills. Later, they even made their own bicycles in
college! Lastly, they got inspired by Octave Chanute to make a flying machine. They were also
inspired by Otto Lilienthal. As you can see, the wright brothers had a very interesting early life.

The Wright Brothers had to overcome lots of challenges in their life. The first challenge they
had to overcome was that when the Wright Brothers began to try and make their plane, no one
believed they could do it. But they decided to ignore what others said and proved that they
really wanted to make a plane. The next challenge the Wright brothers had to overcome was
difficulty of project. Making the airplane was hard and they had to work, design, build a lot. But
they never gave up and kept on working. The last challenge they had to overcome was failure.
Even though the Wright brothers worked very hard, not all of their work actually worked. Most
of their blueprints failed, but they showed perseverance and kept on learning from their
mistakes and made new blueprints. As you can see, The Wright Brothers had to overcome a lot
of challenges.
Eventually the Wright brothers were successful. Their first achievement was making the first
ever airplane. Their first plane was flown in 1900. It traveled for 91 meters (300 feet). Their
second achievement was use of mechanical abilities to create things. When they were in high
school, they began to develop their mechanical skills. They successfully made their own bicycles
and a printing press. When they got enough practice from this, they began to make their famous
“Flyer” which would help everyone a lot. Their last accomplishment was to make a plane that could fly
for 2 hours straight! Their first plane only flew 12 seconds. That plane was named the “Flyer III”. It was
able to do impressive tricks and was very fast. In conclusion, the Wright Brothers were successful
people.

As you can see, the Wright Brothers were very inspirational people. They started f rom a young age
and worked on flying objects till they became successful. They did not give up when they faced
many challenges and failures. They created the most useful invention that we all use often. Because
the Wright brothers were so inspirational, amazing, and just creative, I think that we should honor them.
We should have their statue erected so that everyone can look at it, remember them and feel inspired.
To raise money for the statue, we could hold a fundraiser. I hope you consider my request to get a
statue of Orville and Wilbur Wright erected!
