first songs caught (catch) the attention of the famous singer Elton John. Since then it seems that luck
has been (be) his best friend. One of his latest songs, ‘Thinking Out Loud’, has earned (earn) him many
awards, including two Grammy Awards. Ed is never too proud of his success. He still plays minor roles in
different projects. For example, he made (make) a guest appearance on Taylor Swift’s fourth album, Red,
in 2012.
On 13 December 2015, Ed announced (announce) that he was ‘taking a break’ from social media as
he wanted (want) to see the world through his own eyes, not the Internet. He wrote (write) on his
Instagram account something like this:
‘Hi fans, friends and followers. Thanks for your support via the Internet. But in the last few years I
spent (spend) too much time staring at the screen.
I have not had (have) any real interaction with people for a long time. In the past, I surfed
(surf) the Internet more than two hours a day and neglected (neglect) the biggest of my real life. While
my family and friends were having (have) fun with each other, I was staring (stare) at the screen. I
realized (realize) that they needed me to be in their lives and I needed (need) them as well.’
After returning to social media in late 2016, Ed soon released (release) two new songs, which
became (become) big hits.
