Job Aids links above for required
information. Password Information and
Command Lists for Detailed Lab Steps are
in the Job Aids link.

Task 1: Erase the Cisco Fabric Interconnect Configuration

Cisco Fabric Interconnect in your pod needs to be initialized. You will first check if Cisco UCS has already been reset or not. Next, you will check if
there is any configuration on the Cisco Fabric Interconnect. If a configuration is present, you will need to delete this configuration on the Fabric
Interconnect.

Show Steps

• Step 1:

Click the Play icon in the middle of the screen or the Play button on the player below the simulation screen to begin the simulation.

Note

If stuck, click the Forward button in the Playbar to continue to the next slide.

Tip:
The following are the Playbar buttons and their functions:
◦ Rewind: Resets the interactive activity.
◦ Play: Plays the interactive activity. In the middle of the interactive activity, it can also be used to go to the next slide.
◦ Back: Go to the previous slide.
◦ Forward: Go to the next slide.

Note

When clicking off the interactive activity, the hover function will stop responding. To fix this, click anywhere in the interactive activity. If the
step requires text input, you must also click on the input field needed for this step (the cursor will change to the text pointer). When using
the CLI-based slide, this will usually be just behind the number (#) sign.

• Step 2:

Launch the PuTTY terminal application using the taskbar shortcut on your student PC.

Task 2: Run the Setup Wizard on Fabric Interconnect

In this lab, you will initialize the Fabric Interconnect and run the Setup Wizard. Use the settings that are specified in the Setup Wizard table in the Job
Aid.

Show Steps

• Step 1:

Initialize the Fabric Interconnect. Use the settings that are specified in the table in the Job Aid.

Tip:
Use the following commands. Make sure that you do not enforce strong passwords and set the admin password to 1234QWer. This
password will be used for all systems within your pod. If you enforced strong passwords, this password will be rejected. A strong password
cannot contain three consecutive characters or numbers in any order.
Enter the configuration method. (console/gui) ? console

Enter the setup mode; setup newly or restore from backup. (setup/restore) ? setup

Task 3: Launch Cisco UCS Manager
You have been configuring the Cisco UCS system through the command line, which you need to enter initial configuration, such as management IP
addresses and administrator password. Further configuration of the Cisco UCS normally takes place in the Cisco UCS Manager GUI. You will use a
web browser to connect to the Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect and start the Cisco UCS Manager application.

Show Steps

• Step 1:

Connect to the Cisco UCS Manager GUI.

Tip:
Open a Firefox web browser using the taskbar shortcut and go to https://10.10.1.130.
Click Advanced, then Add Exception and Confirm Security Exception.
Note

The student PC cannot verify the authenticity of Cisco UCS, because Cisco UCS uses a pre-installed Cisco certificate. In a production
environment, the PKI would ensure the trust.
Click the Launch UCS Manager button.

Log in using the admin username and 1234QWer password.

Note

If you get a dialog box about collecting Cisco UCS Manager usage statistics, check the No radio button to disallow sending the information
to Cisco using Smart Call Home, and check the Don't show this message again checkbox. Click OK.

• Step 2:

Verify that no servers have been discovered automatically.

Tip:
Navigate to Equipment > Chassis.
• Step 3:

Verify the Fabric Interconnect interfaces.

Tip:
Go to Equipment > Fabric Interconnect and click on the Fabric Interconnect A. The connected uplinks are displayed in brown (Admin
Down state).
Task 4: Add the NTP Server to Cisco UCS Manager
It is good practice to set the time zone and configure time synchronization once you bring up the Cisco UCS system. This way, you will have
consistent time with your hosts to facilitate troubleshooting and log analysis.

Show Steps

• Step 1:

Configure the NTP settings.

Tip:
Choose the Admin menu from the left pane. Navigate to the Time Zone Management configuration.

Click the scrollbar to navigate to the Time Zone Management and click Time Zone Management.
• Step 2:

Navigate to the Timezone page.

Tip:
Expand the Time Zone Management and choose Timezone.
• Step 3:

Set the time zone to America/Los_Angeles (Pacific Time) and save the changes.

Tip:
Under the Properties, click Time Zone.

Click the scrollbar.

Choose America/Los_Angeles (Pacific Time). Click Save Changes and click OK to close the popup.
• Step 4:

Add an NTP server using the 192.168.10.40 IP address.

Tip:
Under Actions, click Add NTP Server. A new window will appear.
Next to NTP Server, add 192.168.10.40. Click OK and then OK again, when a new window appears.

The NTP server should be added to the list of NTP servers.

This completes this Discovery.

• Step 5:

You have completed the lab activity. Click the Finish button to go to the Summary slide.
