Module L4M8
These reports are designed to help tutors and learners understand the common trends presented by
both strong and weaker answers in relation to the module for the given exam series.
Learning outcome 1:
The question addressed learning outcome 1: Demonstrate the application of the procurement
cycle.
The command word used was: Explain - Give reasons for/account for something so that it is clear
and easy to understand in relation to a given situation.
This question was based on stages of the procurement cycle in relation to the case study
provided. Good answers offered clear explanations and included some specific details from the
case study to support their answer. However, answers that did not score well, either provided
responses that were too brief or demonstrated a lack of knowledge of some of the stages of the
cycle. Overall, this was a well answered question by many candidates.
Learning outcome 2:
The question addressed learning outcome 2: Demonstrate the application of the stages of the
procurement process.
The command word used was: Propose - Suggest the most appropriate answer (theory or model)
for consideration or action in relation to a situation.
The answer required candidates to consider the information covered in the case study and then
apply to the question. Good answers demonstrated both good knowledge of the subject area as
well as the ability to apply these to the case provided. Answers that did not attract higher marks
were either very brief or failed to fully assess the options presented.
The question addressed learning outcome 3: Demonstrate the application of whole-life asset
management.
The command word used was: Explain - Give reasons for/account for something so that it is clear
and easy to understand in relation to a given situation.
This question was in two parts and required definition of some of the concepts in relation to
whole-life asset management, and also an explanation of some of the key elements of whole-life
asset management in relation to the case study provided. Answers that attracted higher marks
recognised the issues and context of the case and applied the elements fully explaining each.
Answer that did not attract higher marks either provided a very brief answer with a limited
explanation and limited use of examples, or in some cases applied the wrong concept to the case
study. However, overall, this question was generally answered well.
Learning outcome 4:
The question addressed learning outcome 4: Demonstrate the application of environmental, social
and governance principles in a range of sectors and industries.
The command word used was: Explain - Give reasons for/account for something so that it is clear
and easy to understand in relation to a given situation.
Good answers to this question explained a range of areas that could be considered and applied to
the case study. However, several answers identified areas without offering clear explanation and
also did not explain how they related to the concepts covered in the case study.
