DO YOU KNOW?

Songs are aimed at entertaining the listeners. However, they are also the
artists’ medium for expressing their feelings. Sometimes moral values are
hidden in the lyrics. The language features of a song are as follows.
Imagery is used to describe feelings and emotions, e.g. ‘When people can be so cold’.

Rhythm is used to create the mood of the song.

Experiences sometimes told use figures of speech, e.g. ‘And you need a helping hand’.

The structure of a song:


Verse is the main part of a song that tells a story.

Refrain/chorus is a part of the song that is repeated. The rhythm of this part is
distinct from the verse.

Coda is a line that closes a song.

The topic of our song is an inspiring rolemodel.

Setelah kalian belajar tentang definisi, fungsi sosial, struktur dan makna
lagu pada contoh kegiatan belajar 1, sekarang perhatikan uraian singkat
materi berikut !

DO YOU KNOW?

A song paraphrase is a restatement of a song giving the meaning in another


form.

To paraphrase a song means to restate a song using other words without


changing the meaning.

Examples of paraphrasing parts of song lyrics of John Legend‘s hit piano


ballad ‘All of Me’ is one of the most romantic love songs ever.

The singer croons how he knows his lady love is the one. He loves her, flaws and all.

breaking down the further meaning of ‘All of Me,’ lyrically speaking. She is a
mystery and hard to handle, and she makes him totally unsure and uncertain, but
he knows their relationship is one roller coaster ride he can’t and doesn’t want to
get off. Despite the chaos, there is something so magnetizing about her. Again,
that’s love.

It’s essentially an update of those standard “to have and to hold” wedding vows. He
is in it for the long haul, through thick, thin, up and down. Did your knees just get a
little weak, like ours did? It’s not physical beauty he speaks of, either. Her curves
and edges are the peaks and valleys of their relationship.
