What Are Yes or No Questions?

Yes or no questions are questions that can be answered with "yes" or "no." They are very direct
and easy to understand.

How to Make Yes or No Questions:


1. Use the Verb "To Be":
o Example: Are you happy?
o Answer: Yes, I am. / No, I am not.
2. Use Helping Verbs (Auxiliary Verbs):
o Examples:
▪ Do you like ice cream?
▪ Answer: Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
▪ Can you dance?
▪ Answer: Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.
Practice Examples:

1. Is it cold outside?
2. Do you have a pet?
3. Can you ride a bike?

Singular and Plural
Singular
• Definition: Refers to one item or person.
• Example: "The cat is sleeping." (Here, "cat" is singular because it refers to one cat.)

Plural

• Definition: Refers to more than one item or person.


• Example: "The cats are sleeping." (Here, "cats" is plural because it refers to multiple
cats.)

Rules for Forming Plurals


1. Regular nouns: Generally, you add -s or -es.
o -s: dog → dogs
o -es: bus → buses
2. Irregular nouns: Some nouns change form entirely.
o man → men
o child → children
o Man → Men
o Woman → Women
o Tooth → Teeth
o Foot → Feet
o Mouse → Mice
o Louse → Lice
o Person → People
3. Nouns ending in -y: If preceded by a consonant, change -y to -ies.
o city → cities
o If preceded by a vowel, just add -s.
o boy → boys

Usage in Sentences
• Singular: "The book is on the table."
• Plural: "The books are on the table."
