EARTH SCIENCE
LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET
FIRST QUARTER
s Name: ____________________________________

October 22, 2024 Grade and Section: _____________________

Learning Competency:
The learner …
 describes the possible causes of plate movement (S10ES-Ia-j36.5).

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this learning activity sheet, the learner is able to:
 evaluates the different theories explaining the possible cause of plate tectonics;
 demonstrates a convection current; and
 understands the importance of plate tectonics to the survival of Earth and its
inhabitants.
Overview:
This learning activity sheet provide you with information and simple activities that will help you
understand how plate tectonics accounts for important features of the Earth’s surface and major
geologic events. As a basis for understanding this concept, the students will know that the evidence of
plate tectonics is derived from the fit of continents. The students will also revisit the concept of
internal structure of the earth.

EVIDENCE OF PLATE MOVEMENTS

1|EARTHSCIENCE
• In 1915, an eccentric German geologist, Alfred Wegener, proposed the hypothesis of
continental drift
• Continental Drift – hypothesis that proposed that the continents had all been joined
together to form one “supercontinent”, the supercontinent broke into pieces and drifted
apart forming the modern continents
• Pangaea – the supercontinent from continental drift, means “all land”

You can do this!

Directions: Explain briefly how the different evidence supports the idea of Alfred Wegener-
Continental Drift Theory. Write your answer on a clean sheet of paper.

1. CONTINENTAL PUZZLE
2. MATCHING FOSSILS
3. ROCK TYPES AND STRUCTURE
4. ANCIENT CLIMATES
5. MOUNTAIN RANGES

Let’s Reflect!
Why is it important to study the history of Earth?
