1. As we heard from our speakers on the Palawan Heritage and Culture

webinar, what is the significance of our culture? Why do we need to have
this study as part of our culture?

- The webinar conducted by the College of Arts and Humanities was

about Palawan Heritage and Culture. Two (2) of the guest speakers were
Dr. Eusebio Dizon, he discussed the History of Archaeological Research in
Palawan and Dr. Victor Paz, he tackled the Current Archaeological
research in Palawan. Based on what I have heard and comprehended from
the speakers, the significance of our culture is that through understanding
and knowing it, we can appreciate and acknowledge our origin and
history. Additionally, Dr. Paz elaborated that it is important to talk about
this topic in order to recognize not only the Philippine past but also the
human past across the region. He also added that, currently, our culture
is meaningful and he hopes that it remains meaningful to the coming
generation, however he said it will only happen if we manage to improve
the way we share our knowledge.

Our culture is rooted from our history and origin. Archaeology or the
study of the past of humans by utilizing material remains such as fossils,
artifacts and ancient materials can help us to comprehend it. A lot of
things need to be learned and studied, particularly related to cultural
heritage, artifacts, culture, as well as, practices, customs, and tradition of
the inhabitants of Palawan. Moreover, our heritage and culture are
important aspects of our life, as Palaweños. Aside from that, it is just a
bare minimum to know and understand this topic since we must be aware
of our origin and surroundings, how blessed and amazing our province is.
Furthermore, it is our responsibility to know our culture in order to share
the information to the next generation. The purpose of this is to maintain
and preserve our practices and customs. That is why it is really important.
Also, our culture is our own identity.

2. As a student, what can you contribute to preserving our culture as a

heritage in Palawan in terms of protection and conservation is concerned.

- As a student of Palawan State University, there are a number of

ways to contribute to preserving our culture as a heritage in Palawan in
terms of protection and conservation. First, I will widen my knowledge and
be knowledgeable enough with regard to our culture, traditions, practices,
customs etc. I will read various books, articles, and research about our
culture and origin. Having enough knowledge and information regarding
our province is a good starter. Second, I will share my gained knowledge
not only to Palaweños but also to other people in order to spread and
disseminate the information. Since we have advanced technology
nowadays, I can use different platforms in disseminating information. I
can use my social media accounts; it will be very helpful because almost
all people are using these platforms and it can easily be seen. Third, I can
spend time with other people, visiting museums, tourist destinations,
historical places and exchanging knowledge and ideas regarding our
culture because one of the best ways to preserve our culture is by
keeping it alive. Also, by exchanging thoughts, both parties are gaining
information from one another. Fourth, joining webinars and other
programs regarding this topic would be a great help in order to preserve
our culture. Lastly, we must protect the heritage sites because this is
where everything started, our history and origin is rooted from there. It is
advisable to join organizations and the likes that focus on this topic,
through helping one another we can protect and conserve our culture
more effortlessly.

Furthermore, we must acknowledge our responsibilities as

Palaweños to our province and appreciate its origin, culture, traditions,
and practices. Our culture is our own identity, it is our duty to preserve
and protect it. We must keep this alive and must still be flourishing even
after decades or centuries.
